Hello, I'm being observed by my head and deputy next week and the focus is on writing. Apart from the obvious writing xmas lists I'm a bit stuck! I'd ordered lots of xmas stories to try and give me inspiration from the school scholastic book club, only to find out todaytt hey won't be arriving till next Friday at the earliest (the day after my observation!) Grr!! If anybody has any suggestions of stories/great xmas writing activities that have worked for them I'd be very grateful.

Christmas Role Play
by Guest- 2 replies

Am thinking about changing my role play area. We've got a dark den at the moment but my lot don't seem to be doing much mark making/writing, so I'm looking for something which will encourage them to get a bit more motivated. We have in the past had Post Office in the run up to Christmas, but my cohort this year seem very young and I don't think they would feel particularly inspired, so I thought I would go along the lines of Santa's workshop or toyshop. Has anyone got any good ideas? Initial thoughts are for writing their own letters to Santa, catalogues for them to look through, cut out, read. Possibly tying in the construction are for making toys. Lists of toys fo…

Part of our classes Christmas performance is saying the Christmas pudding poem which goes Into the basin Put the plums, Stir-about, stir-about, Stir-about! Next the good White flour comes, Stir-about, stir-about, Stir-about! Sugar and peel And eggs and spice, Stir-about, stir-about, Stir-about! Mix them and fix them And cook them twice, Stir-about, stir-about, Stir-about! After the ingredients have been gathered together in the bowl they are going to do a little dance to 'mix them up' to make the pudding. Usually I can think of suitable music but I have gone completely blank today and we must start practising the dance soon(like yesterday really!)Do an…

I do not wish to provide colouring sheets everyday! and wonder if anyone had any suggestions to help with planning for my class of 30. Ofsted are due at anytime and the children are a pretty lively bunch. ideas for independent activites that stretch and extend would be so gratefully receive…

Hi We've been exploring light and dark with our children, including using candles. I was wondering if anybody could suggest creative or mark making activities using candles that have worked with 3 and 4 year olds such as drawing with a candle and washing over with some sort of paint solution to show the image.

Christmas Music

Hello I'm trying to find the music for a song my new nursery nurse knows and we would like to use in our Christmas performance. The song goes: Under a star deep in the night was a stable, under a star deep in the night was a stable. It has it's own original music and I have been trawling all the sites I know but so far no luck! I would really appreciate any help Thank you Windy pops

Making Christingles
by Guest- 9 replies

I want to give our children Christingles this year. They won't be making them themselves. Because some are still under 3 I have reservations about using real candles, and just wondered if ayone had come up with an alternative. I thought about candy sticks that look like cigarettes but that's a mixed message. Any ideas, or do you thuink I should go with the candles? Obviously they won't be lit & children would only have them if their parent/carer was ready to collect them.
