Sorry chaps - and thanks to the many who have pointed out the typo in our newsletter today. The new secretary of state for education is, of course, Nicky Morgan, not Vicky Morgan. Blame it on trying to get a newsletter finished and sent out last thing on Friday. Or my carelessness if you wish...

Hi all - Just to remind you that on 28th and 29th March, we (FSF HQ) will have a stand at the London Olympia Childcare Expo exhibition. We'll be right by the registration area on stand F8, so easy to find, and we'd love FSF members to come and say hello - it's the first one of these we've done, so we'll be the ones looking a bit panicky! We'll be showing off Tapestry, so if anyone is interested in seeing it working and finding out more about it, come armed with your most searching questions. Sue, Helen, Matt and I will do our best to help you. You don't need to be interested in Tapestry to say hello though - we'd love to see any of you who are able to make it. If you w…

Hi all - Just to remind you we'll be up at Olympia this Friday and Saturday (28th/29th March) at the early years Childcare Expo show. We'd love to see our FSF friends up there (never having done anything like this before, it would be a shame if everyone completely ignored us!) and if you're one of the many who have discussed meeting up there, please remember to pop in to our stand, say hello and pick up a FSF badge so others can find and recognise you! Do feel free to use our stand as a meeting up point. We should be easy to spot. Pretty close to the registration area, we're just behind the main sponsors, Morton Michel. Look for helium filled FSF balloons! We'll be talk…

Hi all - Most of you will know Jacquie - she has been with the FSF since 2003 and is one of our oldest (I'm talking in terms of years of service, not age!) moderators. Jacquie retired as a teacher some time ago, but has stayed with us as a moderator out of love for the early years, and hopefully the FSF in particular. However, at long last she has decided the time has come to gracefully retire. All the moderators will miss her wit and wisdom in our debates about various forum issues. We'll also miss her warmth and humour - and additionally I'll miss the jar of homemade Seville Marmalade she sends me down periodically! As some of you know, there's a special category of…

Hi all - Thought you might like to see this old cached page of the FSF two months after it was born. I stumbled across it after reminiscing with a friend. Carol (online as one of our 72 members!) is still an active member today. If you see this Carol, I think that entitles you to an FSF mug at the very least!

Hi all - This is to let you know that we plan to implement a new site appearance for the FSF next Tuesday. This means that the FSF website and forum will be unavailable for most of next Tuesday If you'd like to know when we're back up and running, and you use Twitter, please follow us - @EYFSF - we'll be letting people know as soon as the upgrade is complete. Although the content of the site will be largely unchanged, the non-forum areas of the site will change considerably in appearance. Here are a couple of quick snapshots so you feel less disorientated when we're back up and running: This is how the top part of the front page will look to a logged in…

Hello Steve! Whilst familiarising myself with the new very nicely-looking site I saw that there was nothing under the 'Vacancies Index' under 'Resources', yet there are vacancies listed elsewhere. Is the index perhaps for working for the FSF and not in a setting?

Hi all - For all those who have pestered me (ever so nicely, and I'm hoping Cait will spot this) over the last year for the return of the icon that shows a topic has an attachment (ie an uploaded file) I'd like to point out that it's now returned. It looks like this: and it should appear on topic list pages, search results and view new content. Thanks mattb for making it so!

Hi all - As I've mentioned a few times recently, we'll be updating the FSF website quite radically over the next two to three weeks (the forum area will be very little affected just to put your minds at rest). One thing we wanted to do was replace the photographs on the front page (you know, the ones that change each time you visit the front page) and would very much like to use photographs that members have submitted. After the upgrade it will be possible to add photographs to a gallery album, which will then appear on the front page. However, initially we'll need to post some photos ourselves. It would be great if any of you who have photos you wouldn't min…
