One of my assignments this term is to design and implement a story prop to support childrens language skills, literacy and creative development. With emphasis on the view that using language and litercay is a creative experience. I will be working with a group of four reception children and the story is The Bad Tempered Ladybird. Unfortunately my own, already weak, creative skills seem to have deserted me and the only thing I can think of using are small soft toys or puppets to represent the different characters so the children could act out the story after I read it. That just seems so uninspired that I wondered if anyone on the forum could come up with somethin…

I find analysing observations quite difficult for some reason and was wondering if anyone has any examples/analysed observations on this interesting topic. Hi all, Panic, yes I know what u mean its tough! I have just started my third year and wish I could be a full time student! I am thinking of researching chilid-initiated learning with adult-led and basing on changes since new EYFS, play based/free-flow etc. Does anyone have any more ideas for reference/areas to cover/questions etc? Thanks jam

Hi I have just started my Foundation degree in Early Years and have been given my first assignment. I have to write a report on an Early Years aspect that interests me, trouble is there are so many I'm having difficulty decide what to choose ! I'm not very confident and not sure if I'm academically up to doing it but want to try my best, its something I've always wanted to achieve but have never had the courage to try until now. I did think about writing a report on Special Educational Needs but I don't seem to be able to get started, I'm not sure what to put in the report and where to find the relevant information I need for referencing. I know once I get in…

Hi everyone, I havent started a thread before but have read and been encouraged by many comments on the FSF. I would like to ask all those who have completed the OU E115 if it contains any training on leadership and management or is it all child based. I have just completed my E123 and E124 (not got result yet but hoping I have passed!). As a result of becoming a more reflective practioner I realise that I could do with some training on leadership and management. I am the supervisor/manager of a small village pre-school, managing 5 staff. I am just wondering if I should continue the foundation degree or side track a year and try and find a leadership and manage…

I am in the process of choosing a topic for my dissertation and I know (kind of) that I would like to look at the school starting age, maybe something to do with summer born children, particularly boys (as I have a summer born boy!). However, I am stuck for a starting point. I have been out of academic study for just over a year now and my head is starting to hurt with it all again (well that, and a case of pregnancy brain lol). What do you think to this as an initial idea? Is it too big, too small? Will there be enough info on it do you think?

Hi, I have just started the E115. The first tutorial is on Saturday in Taunton. I live not far from Gloucester but have a phobia about driving on the motorway! Consequently Taunton is a protracted 3 hour journey by public transport! I have tried searching for tutoriala in the South West but they only suggest places like Winchester and Basingstoke! The Taunton tutorial is not on, so I do not know if they are all on at present and if there are any nearer ones - last year my tutorials were at Bristol and I presumed it would be the same this year. Is anyone attending a tutorial with a hour or two's train/bus journey of Gloucester?
