Help I am doing a POLC model of management for my Personal Development and Mangement module. Part of my portfolio task is to write up about Planning, Orgainsing, Leading and Controling module of mangement. Then I need to write up about one activity I did as a leader, this can include working with children. I know I am on the FDey course but as I am working in a Foundation Stage Unit, my tutor sugessted I did an activity plan. So my thought was to do a lesson plan that student teachers use, condiering that I want to be come a teacher. It would also show when I got to apply for teacher training that I can use an example of lesson planning already! M…

Reflective Journals
by Guest- 14 replies

I have been asked to write a reflective journal about a positive and negative situation that I have had to deal with at work recently, so I have decided to write about one major event, but detailing both the positive and negative effects of this. Basically, a child in our care came out in a spotty rash. We tried the tumbler test as he had a very high temperature and was quite unresponsive. The tumbler test didn't really work, because we couldn't tell whether the spots were disappearing or not (poor lighting, general colour of the spots) so I called NHS Direct for advice. They insisted we take the child straight to the hospital, obviously because the symptoms I describ…

Hello! This is one of the modules we are doing at the moment and it is the one I have been dreading the most! I managed to scrape through my NVQ and Diploma using basic theories and basic language to describe them. I always seem to get in a muddle with theories and theorists and apparently this module is full of it, so I am really worried that I'm not going to do too well . I know it's early days, but I was wondering if there were any good books you could reccomend I try. I have the Advanced Early Years Care and Education book and I am sticking with that at the moment. I have also invested in 'Understanding Child Development - Linking Theory to Practice' by Jenny Li…

Hi guys, I am just about to start my Personal Development and Management Module. To help me get started with some inspration, can i ask you what type of organisational culture is your setting and why you think is it so? The Cultures are; power- faith in indviduals, taking risks, judgemental by success, role-flow of power, clearly defined job roles, task- project orentation, strong on teamwork, time spend on reporting person - indivduuals are the foucus, competive behaiour, If it is a mix of all four please tell me how it works, I am needing all the help I can get, we as a class are stuggling to get a grasp of understanding of how the FDey works and how to c…

Hello everyone iam interested in your thoughts on whether we as a country send our children to school to school to young? I personally believe that we have acheived the balance just right, in that there is a much greater emphasis on play in the foundation stage. However i would like to see this carry on through to year 1. Our european counterparts send their children to school at 7- achieving bettter results as they get older. So why then are we not folowing suit?

I have to do a presentation on a theorist of my choice in 2 weeks time and have been told to carry out research on this particular theorist. I am looking for inspiration, as everyone seems to be up for doing Jean Piaget, who, in my opinion everyone knows. I think 40 odd Piaget presentations will get a tad tedious! I would be interested to know which theorist you would consider the most interesting for a presentation and also, the reasons why you would choose them so as I may make a decision for my presentation. Thanks!
