I saw the great fun some of your children have had hatching the chicks and ducklings and thought i would share our news too, we have been housing some caterpillars bought from insectlore. They arrived in a clear plastic tub with a sweet sticky resdidue in the bottom and 5 caterpillars milling around! We introduced them to the children and spent the last 2 weeks watching them grow bigger and bigger, and eating up the food in the bottom of the tub, alas awaiting them to crawl to the top of the tub attatch themselves to the round of paper and begin to chryslalise! Yay they have started, yesterday they hung themselves from the paper and began the amazing process. It …

Garden Centre Flowers?
by Guest- 3 replies

I've heard people talking on here about artificial flowers they have used in their garden centre role plays. Where would the cheapest place be to get these? I'm trying to set up a garden centre role play, but apart from plant pots and watering cans and small plastic garden tools I'm at a full stop when trying to buy inexpensive resources. I'd have liked to get some real plants as well, and perhaps grass seed but it's dificult to find these things on a budget!

Hi All Next half term our theme is "Growing", with particular emphasis on plants and flowers. I would like to plan some really exciting creative activities for the children. I have to look at famous paintings as well. Any ideas? Outdoor and indoor activities. I've thought about making mud pies as I think that would be good fun but apart from that I am a bit stumped. Thanks all I am in a nursery setting 3 and 4 year olds

I have a mixed nursery and recption class and the topic we are about to start when we get back is On the Doorstep and In the Garden. The first two weeks we are going to look at the local environment, children will get to walk around their local area and be provided with opportities to talk about things they like/dislike, we shall also go on a rubbish hunt and collect litter that has been dropped and then sort it once back in the classroom. Was also thinking children could desgin a healthy picnic they would like to eat. …
