Although the new framework doesn't come into effect until September I feel like I have noticed a shift in emphasis already in some of the recent inspection reports. Here are a few examples (with links to the report) if you want to have a look at what has been picked up on. If you have any one your own local examples I'm sure it would be really helpful to hear them! It might just be me being really sensitive! I've run some training for my staff recently on the new EIF trying to bring focus to the 'new' priorities (intent, implement, impact). Next week I want to introduce the 'Cultural Capital' aspect and talk about what it means for our setting and our children. I've put together what I am calling our 'Cultural Capital statement' as I think it will be something inspectors will be talking a lot about and staff need to feel we have a clear 'direction'. Julian Grenier (Head of Sheringham Nursery School, London) has written eloquently regarding the curriculum requirements for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage. He urges us to understand how our pedagogy (how we teach what we decide to teach) relates to our planned curriculum (what we teach and why). June O'Sullivan (Chief executive LEYF nurseries) has written this extremely insightful article in her LEYF blog which address the potential impact of the new Education Inspection Framework. Interestingly, she notes that inspectors already have an eye on the new framework whilst conducting inspections under the 'old' requirements and advises us to be 'ready now'. Have you bought a subscription to the Tate Gallery and booked a visit from a local chamber orchestra to ensure that your setting meets the expectations for Cultural capital?
