Would you like to take part in a survey conducted by Charlotte Jones, a PhD student in Birmingham? The survey aims to explore the experiences of male professionals working with young children and will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. This is aimed at all male professionals working in early childhood education and care (including teachers, early years professionals and practitioners working in the early years). Charlotte would be very grateful for your contributions, and it may well do some good in attracting more men into the sector. :1b Please complete the survey on your own behalf and forward the link to any other male professionals you may know w…

Hello, I am currently in the process of completing my dissertation for my BA(Hons) Early Childhood Studies - which is ‘An exploration the under representation of males in the Early Years’. I am looking for the perspective of male practitioners who are currently in/have previously worked in the early years workforce and have therefore created this questionnaire which should take 5-10 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. I would be so thankful and appreciative of any responses to this questionnaire. Please share with your male colleagues ☺️ thank you!! https://forms.gle/G3PjA86bRnVgkPk49 additionally, I am also lo…

As part of my current research I have devised a very brief anonymous survey for parents, to assess current attitudes regarding men working in early years. So far I have had nearly 500 responses. I would be very grateful if anyone feels able to promote this to the parents of children attending your settings? Suggested invitation – We are asking as many parents as possible to participate in a brief (9 question) survey about men working in Early Years as part of a research project which will be used to inform national policy. You may be aware that less than 2% of the Early Years workforce in England is currently male. This issue is currently being considere…

Any thoughts on the cooperative childcare campaign, they are aiming to increase the percentage of men and awareness of their benefits in early years settings. Well did you see this news item yesterday 'A million children growing up without fathers' I found this bit staggering; 'Men deserts' There are 236 pockets of towns in England and Wales where more than 50% of households with dependent children are headed by a lone mother. And an area in the Manor Castle ward of Sheffield tops the lone parent league table - among households with dependent children, 75% are headed by a lone parent. CSJ director Christian Guy says: "For children growing up in some of the poorest parts of the country, men are rarely encountered in the home or in the classroom. This is an ignored form of deprivation that can have profoundly damag…

Dear all In the latest edition of the CWDC newsletter Jane Haywood the Chief Executive asks the question 'Is working in early years a job for the boys? ' The discussion that followed her blog on the Guardian’s local government site makes interesting reading - find it here although it seems to come back to pay again. Sue
