Pe In Nurseries

Recommended Posts

Just read on another forum about children getting changed for PE lessons in a pre-school...

Do nurseries have timetabled PE lessons where they get changed into PE kit? how often during the week?

What other "subjects" do nurseries cover over and above the 6 AOL? I know some offer French/spanish etc...

How does all this work in practice? Do you charge each family for whatever 'extras' their child takes, do some families decide not to take part? And if so, what do these children do when these extra curricular activities are taking place?

We are on a school site so we use their hall for 'PE' to get the rising five group used to the hall and changing for PE. We start in the autumn with just changing into PE plimsoles, then in January change into shorts and t-shirt. As with anything else, PE meets the needs of the individual children, nothing too complicated.

We are based in a health club with swimming pools and tennis courts ect

The swimming is an extra in preschool time, but this is paid for as an extra £6.00 per session The children that dont go just carry on in the preschool

The tennis is for all during the preschool session, no extra cost

children love it, running, catching, team games, taking turns ect

The French is during preschool time, 1 hour per week, numbers, please, thankyou ect French food tasting, games

A Mum who is French teaches this, in payment we give her two free sessions per week for her son (£10.00)

hope this explains

Ah that explains it - I couldn't imagine how we would do something similar in the middle of a village! It sounds as if you fully exploit all the opportunities your setting offers! And how lovely for the staff to be able to have a swim at the end of a stressful session...

we to toddler aerobics ..does that count :oxD

One of my Brownie mums came and did Pilates the girls last week - idly wondered if we could incorporate some into our physical sessions for nursery. Especially the relaxation bit at the end....

I try to do a twenty minute block of 'PE' each week alternanting between the morning and aftenoon session in the school hall. I use 'Action Kids 600' by Val Sabin and it is fantastic. It has lesson plans linked to the ELG's and 2 CD's to match the lessons. They are fantastic and easy to adapt to your own children. They cover aspects of movement, dance, gym etc. We also have french for 20 minutes each week.
