Guest Wolfie
Can anyone recommend a good article on this subject and how to promote it with children - I've seen a couple of books advertised but haven't really got time to read a whole book and wondered if anyone had come across anything shorter?! AnonyMouse_4544
I would recommend The Thinking Child and The Thinking Child's resource book by Nicola Call The ALPs materials are very good and we have just introduced P4C in school. http://www.dfes.gov.uk/research/data/uploadfiles/RR356.pdf http://www.tlrp.org/pub/documents/EPPE_RB_24_FINAL.pdf http://213.253.134.7/fulton/pdf/1843120909.pdf http://www.tes.co.uk/section/story/?sectio...8779&Type=0 Edited September 7, 2007 by Marion

Guest
My sister has written a book for Featherstone Education called 'Sustained Shared Thinking' and I think it is fantastic (of course!!) Teri
Guest Wolfie
Thanks Teri - I saw a review of her book in EYE and, after saying I haven't got time to read a book, have just ordered it! What a clever sister you have!
Guest
Hi Wolfie I am so glad you have ordered Jenni's' book, it is really good and has helped me explain to staff some of the important concepts behind thinking skills. Let me know what you think when you have read it. If you have any specific questions I am sure Jenni will answer them if you post them to me here. She has just finished her third book for Featherstones, this one is about boys and problems with Literacy Skills, I don't think it is out just yet. I am very proud of my sister, she is a qualified early years teacher and qualified SEN teacher, she left her job last year as a Senior Early Years Advisor to move to a cottage in the Jura mountains, have a better quality of life and to teach her sons herself, and write her books! Guest Wolfie
Will do...it arrived today and I have to say it does look very "readable" - the sort of book you can dip in and out of when you have a spare minute so it'll suit me down to the ground! AnonyMouse_3307
I use this resource at work and in training sessions - from early ed http://www.early-education.org.uk/ccp51/cg...ions:training+m
Guest Wolfie
That looks REALLY good! Anything with Marion Dowling involved is high quality - that might be something we invest in for future training...thanks for the link!
AnonyMouse_8466
I use this resource at work and in training sessions - from early ed http://www.early-education.org.uk/ccp51/cg...ions:training+m I can't thank you enough for this link, Catma (although I had visited before, it was good to get a recommendation and be looking for something specific rather than just browsing). Have ordered the training materials, lots of fantastic leaflets for our upcoming parents evening, and become a student member! What a productive morning - thanks again! AnonyMouse_13453
Catma, that link doesn't work any more. I don't suppose you have it downloaded on your computer have you? I really need something to motivate my staff - who prefer to see something in action rather that read about it. I've tried modelling it, but it's not the sort of thing that's easy to do. Once you are in 'the zone' of sustained shared thinking with a child, you hardly want to run into the other room and get them to come and watch it unravelling. Short of walking around with a head-cam on, I don't know what to do!
AnonyMouse_8466
Cait were you talking about the Marion Dowling training DVD? If so, this link should work.
AnonyMouse_13453
Thanks Maz, that works! Have you seen it? I'm sure with that author it's good, but nice to have a personal recommendation all the same!
AnonyMouse_37885
I've seen it and used it in Inset training. Really worthwhile and there are some useful handy tips like a list of phrases to use when working with children to promote their SST. I was lucky enough to do some training last year with Marion Dowling and she is fab. So down to earth and realistic. Would recommend her and her resources anytime.
