Sustained, Shared Thinking

Can anyone recommend a good article on this subject and how to promote it with children - I've seen a couple of books advertised but haven't really got time to read a whole book and wondered if anyone had come across anything shorter?!

I would recommend The Thinking Child and The Thinking Child's resource book by Nicola Call The ALPs materials are very good and we have just introduced P4C in school.

My sister has written a book for Featherstone Education called 'Sustained Shared Thinking' and I think it is fantastic (of course!!)

I am so glad you have ordered Jenni's' book, it is really good and has helped me explain to staff some of the important concepts behind thinking skills. Let me know what you think when you have read it. If you have any specific questions I am sure Jenni will answer them if you post them to me here.

 

She has just finished her third book for Featherstones, this one is about boys and problems with Literacy Skills, I don't think it is out just yet.

 

I am very proud of my sister, she is a qualified early years teacher and qualified SEN teacher, she left her job last year as a Senior Early Years Advisor to move to a cottage in the Jura mountains, have a better quality of life and to teach her sons herself, and write her books!

I can't thank you enough for this link, Catma (although I had visited before, it was good to get a recommendation and be looking for something specific rather than just browsing).

 

Have ordered the training materials, lots of fantastic leaflets for our upcoming parents evening, and become a student member!

Catma, that link doesn't work any more. I don't suppose you have it downloaded on your computer have you? I really need something to motivate my staff - who prefer to see something in action rather that read about it. I've tried modelling it, but it's not the sort of thing that's easy to do. Once you are in 'the zone' of sustained shared thinking with a child, you hardly want to run into the other room and get them to come and watch it unravelling. Short of walking around with a head-cam on, I don't know what to do!

I've seen it and used it in Inset training. Really worthwhile and there are some useful handy tips like a list of phrases to use when working with children to promote their SST.

 

I was lucky enough to do some training last year with Marion Dowling and she is fab. So down to earth and realistic. Would recommend her and her resources anytime.
