Hedgehogs

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

we were lucky enough to find a snoozing hedgehog in our play area today and the kids (and us adults!) were totally fascinated by the little spikey ball...so we're scrapping planning this week to focus on hedgehogs as the children are so interested...they made a mind map of things they would like to do linked to hedgehogs, just wondered if anyone had done this topic in the past and what sort of things you did with your children??

Thanks

Catherine

One thing that comes to mind is an episode of "Come Outside" all about hedgehogs - our children really enjoyed watching that, don't know if you can get hold of a copy?

we have made clay hedghogs using spaghetti for spikes. We have provided lots of photos of hedghogs and materials to creat such as spaghetti, card glue, paint etc

we have done hedgehog braed rolls before. The percy parkkeeper stories are lovely the children have really enjoyed those this week. There is one about a hedgehog who cant play with balloons so percy helped him out.

We have moved around the hall like hedghogs, hidden under leaves come out when its quiet then when the dog comes out to play(ME!!!)barking the children roll up in a ball quickly.

As well as clay hedgehogs, we've made hedgehogs by drawing a hedgehog outline on card, then glue crunched up leaves and stick them on the spikey body. Enjoy!!!

We currently have an Autumn display on the wall, complete with hedgehog made out of brown paint hand prints, cut out to make the spikes! Add and Autumnal tree and some leaf rubbings and prints ( leaves in paint) and hey presto!!

Happy making :o

How about putting lots of lolly sticks out with playdough to make spikey pals! We once painted paper cut into hedgehog shapes using brushes ( e.g. shoe cleaning brushes and dish washing brushes) and thickened brown paint to give opportunites to talk about textures, spikes and bristles!
