AnonyMouse_3735
we take children out for a walk to look for shapes , eg doors , wheels , numbers, etc locally, surprising what they notice, sometimes we take the camera for them to take pictures, or we record number of circles we can find etc Inge
Guest
Firstly, hi and welcome to the forum. Secondly, I am going to move this to a more appropriate area for you. Like Inge we go for shape walks. We also go out for number walks, looking for numbers in the local environment-bus stops, car number plates etc. Linda
Guest Wolfie
We used to do little treasure hunts outside, encoyuraging the children to look for different toys that we had hidden and introducing/using spatial language to help them, e.g. behind, on top of, next to, under. That was a very popular activity! Or how about a visit to the local post office/shop, etc. and exploring all the maths that happens in there? Guest
I love this book " Maths Outdoors" by Carole Skinner pub Beam Sweep up Paint is a fun activity - mix powder paint in a puddle , how many scoops of powder? , then try using rollers/brushes to extend zig zag patterns out of the puddle- how far can your pattern go? Lots of fun! Edited January 17, 2008 by Guest
