Guest Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 After a visit from our EY advisor I am interested in how everyone tracks their FS childrens' progression in writing.
Guest Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Good question but Sorry, can't answer your query but I do recall Marion putting a link in a previous post about something similar, which showed the stages of writing development from mark making to forming letters. Hopefully she will see this. Peggy
Guest Keen Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 We use small steps after going on a course at the Institute of Education - it was very inspirational. We found the scales in the profile just too big and couldn't see any progress.
AnonyMouse_4544 Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I use the Ros Wilson Criterion Scale to assess my reception children's writing which should be in the resource bank. I will hunt it out and also the stages that Peggy referred to just in case you can't locate it.

Guest Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Thanks Marion. Keen do you have a copy of your small steps to track writing that I could see?
Guest Keen Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Here is the link riverview it is a document from Cumbria http://cumbriacc.gov.uk/elibrary/Content/I...4/384829343.doc Good luck.
Guest Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 There is a useful document used in Kent called Planning in the Foundation stage which includes tracking writing as well as other aspects of Literacy and Numeracy. Can be found here: http://www.clusterweb.org.uk/askdev/earlyy...y_resources.cfm
Guest Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Yes thanks both of you. The Kent one is the one I have been asked to try. Do you use it? I have tried both tonight for 2 pupils to see which, if either, the teachers like in FS. We are a big 4 form Infant School.
Guest Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I am retired now, but did use the Kent document when I was teaching.
AnonyMouse_79 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 It looks really useful Gail, thanks. Ive not found that before!
