Guest
Hi there, as part of science week our school is having a forensic science focus. I teach a mixed aged class of Y1 and YR, does anyone have any simple ideas. My current topic is dinosaurs so one idea so far is to print dinosaur footprints and let ch find out which footprints belong to which dinosaur, we also have a dinosaur cafe as part of our rolplay so I was thinking of something related to find out which dinosaur has biten the donut ( looking at teeth marks etc), even organise a pretend forensic crime scene to find out whose has stolen the till?????? has anyone any simple ideas on this glorious sunday afternoon? ta
AnonyMouse_4544
Dig for dinosaur bones (laminated cut outs) either indoors or out depending on the weather. Let the children match the bones to a diagram of different dinosaurs to identify the type of dinosaur. Make branching data bases from characteristics? Guest
I used to have some small rubber dinosaurs, part of a sorting pack. If you have anything like this then maybe you could make some 'fossil' prints using lumps of playdough (or clay) for children to match. If you haven't got small rubber dinosaurs then maybe you could make some 'fossils' using leaf/fern prints, dinosaur diet, for children to match. Then let them make their own fossils. Sounds like an intrigueing,(spl) fun idea Peggy

Guest
This is not very dinosaurified but have you thought of examining childrens finger prints. Get the children to use the stamp pads for prints and then enlarge them on the photocopier for closer look with a magnifying glass. Lots of patterns and PSE
