Risk Assessing Chicks

Recommended Posts

No, but thinking of doing the same so interested in any wisdom out there!

We do have one child with an egg allergy but apparently the chicks won't be an issue once dry? We've made sure we've got someone to take them at the appropriate time - someone who's rearing other youngsters so they won't be lonley [ the incubator only takes 3 eggs]

Have never actually hatched chicks but I used to have 2 chickens in my garden at home. We allowed them to roam and took our special needs infant class to see them. The children used to stroke them, feed them, etc including feeding them marmite on toast- which was actually meant for the children. Risk ass't included care that chickens might peck, the droppings! and making sure that if children did manage to touch this that hands were washed thoroughly and also washing hands after stroking. We also included in our risk ass't care of the animals in case children's stroking, etc became a little too enthusiastic.

hope that helps and have fun- sounds great,

Krystyna.
