Kids Club

Recommended Posts

Hi

Quick question for those of you who have kids club children if you do school pick up and have 8 children do you send one member of staff, if you are working on the one to one ration for 3 to 5 years can one member of staff take the children out for a walk? Where do we stand legally as we are within the ratio's but I know in a nursery we would not leave a member of staff alone with the children does this alter for kids club. Also if staff go out in their cars to pick up form school (they have appropriate car insurance) can they do this alone? I know childminders are alone and pick children up alone etc but was unsure where we stood with kids club as this is not an area I am an expert in. Any help would be great and sorry for the rambling post hope it makes sense.

our local kids club sends one member of staff, no matter how many children they have to pick up and they have to cross an extremely busy road too...................and so does our local preschool (when taking children for afternoon sessions following morning school sessions...if that makes sense :o

Hi

At the club i run we have staff ratios of 1:5 for infants and 1:8 for juniors, there should always be at least 2 members of staff on a walking bus. As far as i am aware the same should apply to cars there should be a driver and an escort. I know the same regulations do not apply to childminders for some reason but they should. There are the same H&S and child protection risks for childminders and out of school clubs.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the Forum, markimark!

Well I'd send my children to your club - I have seen the local after school club collect children from my son's school and I have to say I'm not impressed. One person rounds up all the children from school, takes them to a corner of a busy car park and waits for the minibus driver to collect them. They pile into the bus, and off they go with only the driver as an escort. The lady who collects them often had more than ten children to content with between the ages of nursery and 11. Not exactly my idea of fun - standing on the side of the road trying to keep them all in order and out of the way of the parents' cars as they hurtle around. :o

well, you learn something every day!! Our kids club lady told me that their regulations state she only needed a driver to pick up children, no escort necessary...............and I thought it was odd, but took her word for it.Hmmmmmm......worry worry worry..

and yes, the children are herded into a corner of the school yard in just the way you describe, then taken by one person to their premises.Frightening.
