Guest Posted September 4, 2008 Share Posted September 4, 2008 Hi everyone This is my first ever post even though I have read the forums for awhile. I am a NQT and have just started teaching a reception class. At the start of the day I have decided to have various toys/activites for the children to play with to help them settle in such as lego or small world ect. These will be available during the rest of the day, and will be planned using observations of the children's interests and needs. However I was just wondering if I should change these everyday or have them for the whole week. I know that it is important for the children to be able to return to their previous activities to develop their learning, but was worried that they my get bored if they have the same ones all week. I would add further items to extend the initial toys on offer, but would this be enough? What do other people do in their classrooms? Would be grateful for your ideas. AnonyMouse_2157 Posted September 4, 2008 Share Posted September 4, 2008 HI nutleywombat you will soon know if the children get fed up with what you have put out as their behaviour and attitudes start to change- If they are in full flow then in theory they can play with the resources as long as their attention and development in being held and stretched- so go with the flow and use your observations to help you decide when you think they need to move on. Maybe you could consider putting out one new item each day, and keeping the others the same?
