Key Workers?

How is the job share split?

Hi! Thanks for replying!!

We do half each: Mon,Tue, Wed.morn.- my partner- Wed. aftern.,Thur, Fri - me.

We have a full time Nursery Nurse and our idea was to Split the class in 3 groups- 8 ch. each, focus our observations on these children. But pastoral care is more difficult...

How explicit do we have to be about arrangments with the children- do they have to be able to name their key worker?

I worked the same half of the week as you for 2 years. We didn't split them into key worker groups- just both fed into assessments. Maybe do half each with your job share? Maybe at parents evening you could do the consulations for your half? Do you get PPA time together to discuss progress? x :o

hello and welcome :o

why not just split the children into 2 halves? Look at which teacher the children have related best to so far and then sort the others aplhabetically or in a similar objective way. Remember that job sharing is a job shared so you only do half or whatever each, not the whole lot.

I job shared for 12 years very successfully and although we didn't have EYFS, the parents always knew who would be in when and they would save non-urgent enquiries until our day. We made it clear from start that anthing urgent would be dealt with straight away by whoever was in that day. ood luck.

I also job shared very successfully fr many years both i nurser and reception. However we shared the key group, so in effect the children had 2 key people. We chose this route because one of us would always be there, whereas, if you assign half te children to each of you, what happens when you are not working that day..you would still need a second person, and it wouldn't be fair for that person to be the TA. Personally I would split the group between the 'teacher' (which in this case is two of you) and the TA rather than a 3 way split.

I think its important also to remember that the key person is not just someone who does the admin and keeps the folders up to date...

good luck with whatever you decide.

This is a good point, mundia. Dorothy Selleck (and Sally Thomas now that I think of it) is very keen on paired and shared key caring so that whenever the child is at the setting there is a key person who knows them well. This can be a little difficult to achieve in a pre-school setting, but I would have thought was quite appropriate in a school setting?

But what would I know? :o
