Childminder Drop-in

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am new to this site but was wondering if anyone out there has any planning ideas for a childminder drop-in once a week were their base is a children`s centre. The sessions last for 2 hours once a week so it would have to be short. Also any advice with regards to observations and the childminders are now legally obligated to deliver the EYFS but on a much reduced scale.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :o

Hi Kiverpool 18, A warm welcome to the forum. :o

No difinitive answer I'm afraid, I'd say ask your users how they would like the 2 hours to run, the childminders are the ones that know their children, know what resources they don't have at home that maybe the CC can provide, and also know their childrens current interests etc.

Have fun. xD

Get to know some of the criteria for 'look listen note' as a starting point. Put a pencil and small notebook in your pocket and just observe things - you will be surprised at what you find! A child bringing you a plate of plastic food and then another plate and telling you you have two now, indicates that they are using numbers (and understanding) and using imaginative play, they are using language to convey simple messages. They may be experiencing this type of play for the first time (PSE D&A), they may be exploring the wider world for the first time without a parent present, with you s the 'caring and responsive adult'.... and so it goes on. I would suggest that you imagine a scenario like this in your head and then look through the areas of learning to see what you can find. Jot your thoughts down - you will soon find that it becomes second nature and you are metaphorically ticking things in your head as you go along even round the supermarket as you overhear children - does anyone else do this by the way, or is it just me!!!!!!!

Does this help at all?

Hiya everyone and hello Peggy - long time I have been on here - will send you an email with updates

I have just agreed with my childminders that we will share our full daycare planning with the childminders. This will link to some of the annual themes - child safety week etc. The nursery staff produce some additional materials for say one or two creative activityies e.g. zebra crossings and traffic lights - we then create a spidagram for this activity with the outcomes that may/may not happen and they then link in with development matters. This way they can then have something they can take away as evidence and it also helps them to get to grips with their planning. We will see how it goes, it starts this week and links in with the school nursery planning too.
