Fire Procedures

Does anyone do an induction procedure for new parents about what to do in case of a fire. we are a private nursery and although we give parents a copy of our fire procedure it does not state what to do if you are dropping off or picking up a child during a fire drill, what do other settings do? do you explain to parents what to do and where the assembly point is? (as i wonder how many actually read the policies)

I used to do fire drills at these times of day, but only once the children had learnt the drill. The children 'helped' their parents follow the procedure. :o

Our proceedure used to say that parents should follow staff instructions, we had 3 possible exit points and staff wold decide which exit was to be used at random, they should leave personal property behind, and lead the children quietly.

Our fire drills were like Peggy's, we trained the children and then did them at arrivals and leaving times. The first time we did it with parents present the evacuation time doubled as parents stopped to put the childrens coats on because it was cold out!

We also had a notice on the board with bullet points, when the alarm sounds...
