I think Hali just wants to be prepared Jenny!! And getting the rest of us panicking! :o

We have done robins-we sponge printed a brown oval and then a red sponge circle in the middle. Add eyes and legs with a black felt pen and glue on a card beak! Very simple but very effective. The other one we do for robins is fingerprints in brown, a smaller finger print over them in red and again add beak, legs and eyes in black felt pen.

We show the children lots of Christmas cards and list Christmasy things together. Then the children decide for themselvs what they would like to do on their card and use all the arty and christmasy bits to make it. I do a pro=forma for the inside and they sign it. Our Reception children put them in envelopes, we address them and after putting stamps on we go to the local postbox. They are most excited when they arrive at home. We also design Christmas stamps with the children- makes a lovely display. We start xmasy things on Dec. 1st.

on the reindeer theme we took digital photos one year (close up of children's face) cut out stuck onto background that children have created (dripped glue and silver or snow glitter)

made handrints with brown paint and used these for the antlers. Blob of red glitter on the nose and bobs your uncle! :o

Last year... we did hand printed angles... although they all can out the same :o ...

nice idea though.

You do two hand prints that touch at the thumbs, but fingers closed for the wings and then a hand print between for the body. We then used a round sponge for the head.

They did look pretty... but not child orintated as we will do this year.

We also have a christmas craft day in school... we arrange 6-8 activities and get in lots of parent help and try and blitz the activies.... the children get ago at most of them and those who don't can be picked up in the next few days.... Last year we found it a nice way to startr activities and then to finish in the following week.

Takes lots of organisation but the children and parents enjoy it.

We once did christmas pudding cards, decorated with flour, oats, old pack of raisins found lurking in the cupboard, (anything else we could think of) red sequins and glitter for good measure - very messy :( we send child made cards to people who have helped us over the year and the comments from some were facinating :o , - particularly the brigadeer ( I ran a pre-school on an army base for a while) who got flour shot all over his desk and floor. It was the only card he displayed in his office and the following year was so suspicious he got his clerk to open it first. xD .
