Guest Posted November 12, 2008 Share Posted November 12, 2008 We had an Ofsted a couple of years ago where I was observed teaching the reception children in a foundation unit, and my room and coordinator file looked at. The inspector was an early years specialist. The foundation stage got a good, where the school overall got a satisfactory. This last year I have had to contend with an afternoon club in my room starting, who cannot look after things, and a new untrained T.A who thought I should tell her every little thing to do. I have had conversations with my head who will not listen to my grievances, and does not understand how all this has impacted on my workload. Now I feel she has not liked my challenges and is getting back at me through the observations. She has cited as adequate that ' most children were playing together well, but some were playing by themselves quite happily'. I asked her what she meant, and her reply was well that was what I saw and it was fine. so I asked her if that was adequate then I should be able to improve it and I asked her how you could improve on that. Now I recognise there is different quality in play, but she has no idea. She has put down I gave the children no objectives when I know for a fact I did and then said there was no outdoor planning. There was but she didn't spot it. she also stayed with me a whole morning where as it was one lesson for everyone else. Today we had discussions about the increase in numbers in K.S1 My reception children join them in the afternoons. there will be 12 KS1 and 10 Year R It is tricky for them. The head suggested a T.A take them in my room in the afternoons when the afternoon club weren't there.I suggested that they could share the room and she said no, because the little children running around will put them off. What does she think I have to contend with every day with one untrained T.A( although she is improving rapidly I must add) She then suggested that these young reception children could be taken to one end of a year 5-6 class room or the library with year 5-6 furniture e.t.c to do focused work!!! My Key stage one staff said that it was not a suitable environment!! so she listened to them. I am beginning to feel she is coming from she only teaches little children -she knows nothing thanks for listening folks I am beginning to feel like packing it in and just needed a moan. I'm really shattered now, so can't give any helpful advice at the moment, but just wanted to sympathise and say I'm thinking of you. Will be back in the next couple of days to see how you're doing - I'm sure lots of other people will have really hepful and supportive advice.
