AnonyMouse_13789
I am trying to organise myself for my new intake after Christmas. I am going to do parent interivews for the first time and was sondering if anyone could share a format that they use, just so i can have an idea of the sort of information others ask for. AnonyMouse_13453
I have a list of things that i feel are important to mention to parents, and we work through this list after general chat, we used to get parents to sign the bit of paper to say i'd told them this stuff, but we don't seem to get the signature these days, just a more informal look down the list together and 'i've told you that, and that' etc. Then we go through the initial child profile together and then have a more informal chat about their expectations for preschool and if there are any questions or clarifications of the prospectus they would like. That any help?

Hi, Is this to meet the parents for the first time or have they already met you? We do parent visits either in school or at home in September. We ask questions about the child which could relate to school eg pencil grip/ right/ left handed etc but also ask about whether their child will be confident going to the toilet, do they have any special names for asking for things esp toilet. We also use it as a time to reinforce school policy on attendance/ sickness and accident and the need to bring a drink of water every day and a coat no matter how dry it looks in the morning. Hope this helps and good luck with your interviews Nicky Sussex
AnonyMouse_13789
This is not the first time that i will be meeting hte parents. They have already visited school with children to look around the setting and they have attended an induction evening. The meetings will take place when they come for a half day with their child after xmas. things i was thinking of asking were: do they feel they are ready for school? Do either of them have any anxieties? interests of the children? favourite tv/book/toys etc? Any help with toilet/eating required? Can anyone think of anything else? We also ask whether the parents have any specialist skills that they could offer to the class and would they be interested in helping on an occasssional or weekly basis. I then stress that parent helpers are only used once the class are settled and then are given specific activities to do, we had a problem in the past with a parent wanting to come in and "observe their child in the classroom" so now have drawn up a set of guidelines for parents to use.
