Guest
Just opened my March EYE mag and saw Barnardos Big Toddle advertised on the back encouraging settings to raise money for Barnardos by having a sponsored walk and just wondering if anyone else had seen this and was considering doing it? After researching a little on their website discovered the nearest Barnardos run event is over 45 minute drive so don't think would be suitable but you can host it yourself with ideas such as fancy dress theme which sounded fun so am going to pitch to the leader tomorrow (if we're open!) and then approach committee before registering- doesn't sound like much organising (she says naively) and get a nice pack to help organise it all... Thought would be good way of raising money for charity- plus pre-school can optionally decided to keep 25%- and would be good community event bringing everyone together Bex
Guest
We took part two years ago and invited the local press in to take pictures. It was very successful and you can make it as long or as short as you like. Next time I think we would do it towards the end of a session and ask parents if they wanted to stay for a picnic, weather permitting!! Great for talking to the children about others who are less fortunate then they are. Barnardo sends all you require ww may use a particular fancy dress theme. good luck. AnonyMouse_14602
We too have done it for the last couple of years. The children really enjoy it. We usually add some activities into the walk such as jumping in hoops, weaving through cones etc. to keep them focused. They are proud to get their medal and certificate which are provided. Guest
We have taken part in this for many years. As you said you don't need to go to an organised event - do something yourself, its so easy. Barnardos send you all you need, sponsor forms, certificates, medals and a pack with lots of ideas in it. We generally do a sponsored walk around the local park as the kids enjoy it and we also factor it into a topic somehow. One year the weather was so bad, we did sponsored laps around the church pews. We made a card for each child and they had it stamped as they passed us. Can't remember how many laps we did, but they did enjoy it. You are aloud to keep 25% of the taking, but we send it all to the charity, it is for a good cause
