Guest Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Wow - how cool is this! Our very own section Having been offline for a bit I hadn't noticed - but am very excited! Had better make use of it now, hadn't I??
Guest Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 wow... never knew there was a special section... i wonder if anyone could tell me what the difference is between a BA in education and one in early years... as i have to decide for sept....
Guest Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hi Simcity - check out the course structure for both courses just to be sure! I am in my 3rd year of a BA in Early Childhood Studies - studying distance through London met Uni. Friends of mine are doing BA in Early Years at the local college - can't say there seems to be a huge difference between our two. Not sure about the BA in Education - maybe it offers more study potential for working with older children? I really love mine and it is all based around the under 7's - would liked to have studied locally but that was never an option for me Have to admit, distance learning is tough at times!
Guest Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Thanks pickle i spent 2 hours on the uni website last night couldn't find any details of modules etc... might contact uni direct for info... thanks
AnonyMouse_4869 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 i did education with early childhood - just to muddle it up a bit!!! the education modules were more about school/curriculum development over time and primary children, also about leading and managing in school. Then early childhood had a stronger focus on child devlopment, sociology, psychology, services, policy etc. Although I did find that choosing early childhood as a specialism meant that I repeated some of the info from the education modules. lucie xx
AnonyMouse_8466 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Mine and hali's BA was in Children's Development and Learning - wonder how many different titles there are? Maz
Guest Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I choose the 3rd year Education Studies route and it basically opens up the area - we have had modules like Human Rights, Humanities, Physical education etc.....there are more options to study at all ages of childrens development. i have found it really interesting with hardly any mention of EYFS and ECM.....it has kept me going really, and inspired a new found love of history, I guess it broadens your study area instead of staying with early years.
Guest Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hooray, someone else has made a post, I was beginning to feel lonely in here all by myself. Welcome

Guest Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Wow - how cool is this! Our very own section Having been offline for a bit I hadn't noticed - but am very excited! Had better make use of it now, hadn't I?? Thanks to Wendles for suggesting a BA sub forum, and thanks to Steve for adding it. Seems a popular and useful addition to the FSF forum index. Just goes to prove that the FSF is a reflective site which evolves to meet the requirements of it's members. Peggy
Guest Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Just to say Hi, I am doing a top up year to gain my BA (HONS) Education and Childcare am just getting to the stage of having to choose a research topic. Last year for my Foundation Degree I did a research of Using Story Sacks to promote parents understanding of Personal, Social, Emotional and Communication, Language and Literacy Development, which went really well, a few people on the forum were kind and completed my questionnaire. It is so hard trying to decide what topic to look at as my studying has given me interest in lots of different areas! Deb
Guest Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) Hi deb when you have your BA (hons) what are you planning to do with it?. I want to do my teacher training but have missed the cut off date for a pgce. Do you know whats the best route to follow as i have already got a BA (ed) hons in early childhood education. AnonyMouse_6361 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Wow a new section must have been sleeping. I will be using this from September 09 hopefully if I can get a place on the BA (hons) Early Childhood Studies. I must be mad to carry on and complete my degree but I know I like learning and gaining new knowledge in Early Years. I also spoke to my old placement teacher who said that once I have this in 'the bag' you will have lots of opportunities within Early Years. Beth
AnonyMouse_21228 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Hi debwhen you have your BA (hons) what are you planning to do with it?. I want to do my teacher training but have missed the cut off date for a pgce. Do you know whats the best route to follow as i have already got a BA (ed) hons in early childhood education. hi everyone, Zuri, i am with CCCU at the mo and know that the PGCE courses have start dates all over the place, if you choose part time options,so have a look? i am doing 3rd year BA childhood and youth studies. Even though we are looking at contempory issues, curriculum policy etc we all choose our own angle so have been able to keep in the EYFS arena throughout. Very interesting! now if i can just get this dissertation done.... aarrgghh
AnonyMouse_1999 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 oh are my observation skills sadly lacking I haven't noticed this sub forum before! I achieved BA in Early Years last December and am on the final haul in upping it to BA (Hons) in Early Years. Doing it all via the OU (think you might know that by now!) half way through my current/final course and so far so good marks wise but not the most thrilling course I have done, been really lucky with all my previous ones

Thanks Netta Hi Netta Can't really help with the OU side of things I'm afraid.... But I am heading towards the final year of BA Early Childhood Studies - distance learning with London Met University. I love it but I have to say my course structure is slanted heavily towards the early years (fine for me though as that is exactly what I wanted) Reading different posts on here, there appear to be different course titles with varying content. Could you contact the OU advisors to clarify the difference between course structure? Although I have only had a little contact with them, I have always found them to be very knowledgeable and helpful. I can send you a pm if you want to know more about the London met set up.
