Accidents Do You Review Or Monitor?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Does anyone monitor their accident book and existing injuries book? Do you use a form to say that you have and what would the results be following on from such a review. Anyone got a form I could use?

I think for child protection we should be reviwing existing injuries and for risk assessments the accident book but I cant come up with a method of recording. Any ideas?

Thanks all

We have a form that is filled in every half term to say H&S coordinator has checked accident/incidnet forms, the outcomes and any action required (not usually much but have reviewed some practise because of this) but it is not my document and it is at work so I will check with H&S coordinator and forward it if possible!! :o

Hi there,

In each of the three rooms at my setting we complete an accident form in duplicate, keeping the original, signed by parents and the parent takes away the copy. Our copies are kept in a folder until the end of each month when I log them all and then hand the log book to the H&S officer (new and very keen!) who keeps a book on all the rooms.

I also check my log to see frequencies, such as same children having accidents, same locations, times of days most prevalent and so on. I compare these stats with the previous month and tell my colleagues the details. It is quite an interesting exercise !!!! :o

We have taken steps to remove obvious hazards, such as trike riding in a closed area as there seemed to be lots of accidents involving these knocking children over. All in all, we do what we can without aiming to avoid any accidents at all, as that would be impossible!

Hope this helps.

Lesley

we have a section on ours that says "action to be taken to prevent this happening again". As manager I have to sign all accident forms, the girls bring them to me when an accident has happened, if they havent put an action and it warrants one then I discuss it with the member of staff and write it on the form, this way if the same things crops up I know about it straight away!
