Guest
Has anybody else done the toddle for Barnardo's? We have participated this year for the fifth time. Each year has been more and more successful and it is such an easy fundraiser The children have to "toddle" for half a mile. We have always done our own toddle but there are organised events at venues all over the country. Ours involves us walking to a garden area at the front of the church walking around the grassed area five times and walking back to our premises. The money raised is split between Barnardo's and the group-75% for them and 25% for us. We have raised £708.95 so far this year with some more to come!!! We did ours on Thursday, 12th June, one at 9.30am and the afternoon children at 1.00pm. It poured down in between but the weather was glorious for both times we were out. The children loved it and it was a lovely way to raise money for a good cause and ourselves. I have ordered some lovely little hands multi-cutural instruments with some of the money we have raised for our group. Linda
Steve
Hi Linda - We haven't done one ourselves - it sounds like you probably have an ideal location for it, but we'd have to take them a fair way through busy roads to get to any open flat land. Shame, it sounds like a great experience! We'll have to try to come up with an alternative way of doing it... If anyone is interested in organising a toddle by the way, you can find a link here. You'll have to get your skates on though. I think they're all supposed to be finished by end of June! By the way Linda, how are the preparations for your nursery's anniversary coming along? Steve. Guest
Hi Steve I'm glad you asked about the party as we are probably going to change the date!!! We realised that the last day was going to be somewhat difficult, and also somewhat emotional as we are losing a lot of children to school this year. Some of them will have been with us for two years and for one family it will really be the end of an era as this is the fourth child to come to us and there hasn't been a gap between one finishing and the next starting!!!!! So we have decided to bring the party forward a week to 18th July instead-but I'll have to confirm that with you later in the week. Plans are coming along fine and we are all getting quite excited. The staff are going out in the evening so the whole day will be one long party Linda
Guest
We have done the Barnadoea toddle for three years now, and our children love it, we walk the half mile to our local lower school and they let us have their playing field for the morning, we have a teddy bears picnic, games , songs and staories. we also call this a family outing and all parents are invited, most of them come anyway because of the ratio`s and they can bring little ones as well. we raised just over £400 this year and it was better than last year! kim
Steve
Excellent stuff Kim. Do you know if it can be done any time of year or if there's an 'event' week or something. I guess it's probably safer to save it for the summer anyway... It would be interesting to hear of any other fundraising or charitable activities that have proved successful!
