Not sure how you define 'creative' but for our cards this year we have bought Baker Ross card blanks in the shape of MUM which the children will decorate however they wish using a variety of resources available for self-selection. So there will be the usual range of creation: from those laden with glitter, masking tape, straws, feathers and heaven knows what else to the single application of a self-adhesive gem!

And we haven't really decided much else yet! :o

last year we cut out a square shape out of the front part of the card and hen stuck in a clear bag. we then let the children put anything they wanted in this bag i.e glitters sequins anyt hing from the creative area and we asked then to tell us 3 things about their mummy.....some willingly told us 3 tings others needed more encouragement. we then typed thse up and out the in the see through bag....the mumz loved them

this year we are doin a foto card where the children can decorate it how ever they want and they can stick their own photoz in!!

hope this helps

Hi Simcity

We are planning for the first time this year a Mother's Day Tea Party to be held half an hour before we close. We plan

to turn our village hall into a 'cafe' with small tables and chairs, covering each table with yellow tablecloths and

a vase with 'daffodils' the children have been making during the session. On the Friday, the children are going to make

and decorate cakes and biscuits and will serve either cold drinks from jugs or prepare sugar and milk in cups for parents

to make their own hot drink. We plan to decorate the hall with yellow, orange and gold balloons and a 'Happy Mother's Day'

banner, which will also be decorated by the children. We have advised parents within our monthly newsletter of the forthcoming event and the children will also 'write' their own invitations nearer the time. We have also stressed to our parents that if 'Mum' is not able to make the tea party then Dad, a grandparent or carer will also be warmly welcomed!

Hope this is of some use to you.

Hi shiny

Yes, we too had a little fellow who lost his mum on Father's Day which was equally sad. The following year

we spoke to Dad and he was more than happy for his son to make cards and gifts to place on his mummy's grave

as they still wanted to celebrate 'Mother's Day' in a positive way. We also had a little girl who lost her father

in a road accident on her birthday. Again, equally sensitive but it is amazing how the remaining parents stay

positive and continues to celebrate and remember happier times. I found the best way forward was to speak to

the parent and be guided by them.

Hi, this year we are using egg boxes as a flower, letting the chldren paint them and then cut leaves out and stick these to a piece of card. The children then overwrite inside the card. Hope this gives you another idea. Its made me cry reading how some children have no mums or lost a mum as such a young age. 0258 x

Just thought of another idea for mother's day we have done in the past. Just a simple white ceramic tile

draw the outline of a tree (or something else!) with permanent marker then invite children to decorate within

the outline. We chose mixed herbs for the green part of the tree and mustard seeds for the trunk. We then attached

string to the back of the tile to hang in the kitchen and added 'Happy Mother's Day' to the bottom of the tile.

Each picture turned out different and they smelt nice too! It covered lots of areas of learning too!

Hi were making flower cards, Lots of pre cut flowers and floded card put out and then the children stick what they want on! Even if you have a child that doesn't like craft you can usualy get them to stick one flower on. Very effective and all childs own work.
