Guest
Hi. My first post here. This year for Christmas we are putting on a performance for parents and we are deciding on what songs the children can sing. I'd love to do 5 jolly snowmen with them but have forgotton the words and the tune it is sung to. I can remember when I was a student children doing it one Christmas at another nursery and it involved them melting when the sun came out. It was a great song and I know they had 5 of the children wrapped up as snowmen and another doing the chimes. I think the other children played bells along to the song. I can remember it was a really catchy song! I've been trying to find the words and have found another version but not this one. Can anyone help me out here please??? I reckon it will be fun to learn with my group (2-3 years)
Guest
Not sure if its the right one but the version i know is 5 little snowmen fat, each with a funny hat, out came the sun and melted one, aah, aah, what a sad thing was that, down, down, down. I know the tune but I can't remember another song that has a similar tune sorry! hope that helps x

AnonyMouse_79
Hi Amethyst and welcome. I'm sure you'll soon be addicted on here!! Good luck with your snowman quest. Cazza's suggestion sounds good, even if iys not the one you were looking for. I think Ive used a different one, seem to remember the children bringing hats and scarves for props, so will go on a search for you! Have you looked in The Little Puffin collection? AnonyMouse_2127
Is this it? 5 jolly snowmen standing in a row Each with a hat and a big red bow Out came the sun and it stayed all day And one little snowman melted away. 4 jolly snowmen etc.... Don't have a tune though - sorry Sue J
AnonyMouse_2127
Sorry missed out this bit - Each child has a black top hat (inexpensive plastic ones) and red paper bows for round their neck Another child is the sun and stands behind each child as we recite the poem. The children slowly drop to the floor as they melt. Sue J

AnonyMouse_468
I have just remembered that the tune to the snowman song that I use is on the Cbeebies Tweenies website and you can hear them singing it! bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/tweenies/songtime/songs/f/fivelittlesnowmen.shtml
AnonyMouse_64
You could try this one http://www.mrsjones.org/songs/snowmen.html or this one about half way down (rhyme not a song though) http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/occasion-rhymes.htm this one has a whole range of snowmen rhymes and songs http://www.everythingpreschool.com/themes/snowmen/songs.htm and so does this one - probably a lot the same http://www.earlyliterature.ecsd.net/snowman.htm Sorry, this probably isn't much use in your quest for the song but it had stacks of snowman activities on it so thought I would include it! http://www.mrspohlmeyerskinderpage.com/winter.htm Happy hunting. AnonyMouse_79
Hi Jackie, thats lovely. Its the same tune as "Five little Firemen" or "Five little Engines" but probably too difficult for the tinies Amethyst has?
AnonyMouse_2157
Just trying to be creative with Sue J's Jolly Snowmen rhyme... what about this 5 Jolly Santas standing in a row Each with a present and a big red bow Along came Rudolph with a sled one day Got a jolly Santa and took him far away and so on and so forth... ooh the variations could be limitless now there's a challenge
AnonyMouse_2157
thanks Beau for the great links... I love the idea of the paper plate snowmen going home as a creative project in http://www.mrspohlmeyerskinderpage.com/winter.htm What a lvely way to involve parents and a great way to get a display too... Guest
All the links are lovely. This is nothing to do with the topic but how old are kindergarten children in America? Is it the equivilant to our reception year and do they start at the same time? I,ve always wondered amd never really found out when other school's begin full time education

AnonyMouse_64
Perhaps Rocket meant to reply to the playdough thread?? It's easy done and a mistake many of us have made. Cazza, I think that kindergarten ages range depending on which state you're in, most starting between 4/5 years. However, the age of the start of compulsary education is as late as 8yr old in some states I believe.

Guest
Hurray! I've remembered it at long last. Once I'd stopped thinking too hard about it. 5 jolly snowmen ready to play, (snowmen dance in circle) ready to play, ready to play, Out came the sunshine to warm up the day, (another child was sun waving arms about) and 1 jolly snowman melted away. (one child fell to ground slowly with a wiggle) And so on until 0 left. last verse was 0 jolly snowmen no-one to play, (children all sitting look sad and shake heads) no-one to play, no-one to play, Along came the children to brighten the day, (big smiles and jump up and wave) They built 5 more snowmen and shouted 'Hooray'
