Guest
We are currently doing topic on minibeasts- will be reading Very Busy Spider-when we go back after half term-any ideas to follow up either literacy based/craetive or other ??? Brain dead at moment-thought I would ask here first before I trawl through other resources. We have provided identification sheets for minibeasts, looked at caterpillars/butterfles/ladybirds and now the turn of spiders ( I hate them by the way!!!)Children are loving the topic by the way. Thanks for any help.
AnonyMouse_13453
If it's the board book you have with the slightly raised web lines - we used some black sugar paper on the last page and children did a gentle rubbing of it with a white wax crayon - looked very effective
AnonyMouse_13453
we also made spiders and with a ball of string and the busy spider book and some bamboo canes we wove our own web to hang all our spiders on! definitely taught respect for the clever spider as it was quite difficult! AnonyMouse_64
You can 'capture' real spider webs on to paper. Make sure the spider isn't in the web and spray it with spray paint (black or white works well). Then gently put a contrasting colour piece of paper against it and it will stick. Cut the edge of the web off of whatever it is attached to and there you have your web.
AnonyMouse_13453
eeee Carol! When you've spent as long making one from string as we have you NEVER want to destroy one of theirs again!

It's a bit like cake making though - why make your own when you can buy a super one from the shops already done?
Guest
cooked spaghetti - very sensory! Drizzling pva glue and sprinkling with glitter like on a dewy day! If you do this on a plastic pocket it can be peeled off and put on the corner of windows, displays etc. For the spider - on black paper, draw around both hands onto black paper. Cut out, then join them together by overlapping the palms a bit (thumbs next to each other, facing downwards), then add googly eyes and a bit of fine elastic for his thread..... Guest
Hi, Children loved going on a web hunt inside and outside. Made spiders from black painted paper plates and counted and added 8 legs and googly eyes. If you did some spider rhymes such as little miss muffet could encourage PSED, eg, should little miss muffet have run away from the spider?what could she do to make friends? We scribed their ideas on spider shaped paper and mounted them on a large web (string in hexagon shape). each letter started 'Dear spider..'Children also enjoyed drainpipes and tubing in water with spiders. We made some black playdough for them to make them. can also buy minbeast stencils on e bay. Could do maths activity such as sorting plastic minibeasts or on IWB, eg, number of legs,6,8 or no legs. Also plan for Very busy spider and powerpoint on hamilton trust for reception. Hope that helps. Good luck Sue x
