Guest
I'm sure you might have thought of this but we try to connect the shapes to a seasonal / topic activity so this week we are having a feely bag game with presents (strangely enough wrapped up triangles, squares, rectangles, hexagons etc). It is amazing how with the shapes wrapped the children want to keep playing it again and again ! The 'Tom Thumb's book of Musical Maths' has ideas with songs for each shape and this is one from the 'The Little book of Maths songs and games' to the tune of 'Twinkle, twinkle little star' FINDING PAIRS Circle, square, triangle, star, How I wonder where you are. I turn a card and hope you're there, The shape I want to make a pair. Circle, square, triangle, star How I wonder where you are. You can't go wrong with a song ! AnonyMouse_64
This is a good time of year for shapes! From those pesky presents (which could be square, oblong or circular), to Christmas trees and stars which can be made from triangles. It's always good to use the children's current interests and which of them aren't interested in Christmas right now!!
