Transition Into My Setting

We are taking in a few children into YR this year from outside of our FSU and I am planning to go visit these children in thier current setting. Do any of you do these visits? What do you look for when you are visiting? Do you have any proformas that you use that would be helpful????

Yes I used in my last school as FS coord.

 

We had 3 school visits which I changed to a preliminary visit with parents, a visit by me to the feeder setting and then a visit where children stayed in classroom and parents had intro chat with HT.

 

I also visited the nurseries to get info about children re friendships etc so that we could allocate the children to classes (90children to 3 reception classes).

 

After this, we had home visits!

I work in a pre-school not on a school site. For the first time ever (although they have been invited many years before) reception teachers and nursery teachers have visited us to meet the children going to their schools.

The teachers have had a 5 minute chat with the child's keyworker and then introduced themselves to the children by joining in with the activity they were playing with, they were welcome to stay as long as they wanted.

One teacher had a pre-printed sheet with the child's name and the title 'Look Listen Note' on it.
