AnonyMouse_6721
Hi Everyone Hope everyone's been enjoying some nice weather. It is lovely to be able to be outside for the whole session, but we are having trouble managing sun hats. Most do bring them in now but most can't keep them on their heads. What do others do? Staff have suggested that we have playgroup hats that anyone can wear. What do you think?
AnonyMouse_1469
we have a supply of hats that we can give out when their own are forgotten. We wash them regularly and ( touch wood!), haven't had any problems with nits so far!!
AnonyMouse_20948
Children are asked to bring their own, but if they forget we have our own legionnaire type caps available. The children know they HAVE to wear a hat or they won't be able to play outside and they all accept this and are very good at policing each other and telling us when someone's hat has fallen off! We also set up all activities in shaded areas. Mind you, in this weather it's been too hot to go out!
Guest
We too have safari style caps. We just put these on all of the children even if they have brought their own as we just find it easier. And the same as calicojo-no hat you can't go outside! Linda
AnonyMouse_13453
Do you make staff wear them too? We have sun hats for staff - can't have 'do as I say, not as I do'

Guest
We do the same... no hat, no outside in this very hot weather. On the whole everyone is really good about it!! But as already said it has been so hot that the children have chosen indoors as the cooler option! We also have a selection of nursery hats to hand! Guest
All the children in our setting supply their own hat which they leave with us but we do have spares for those who forget. All staff have to wear hats as well. Like others, our rule is no hat, no outside. Slightly off topic but I've got to have a moan about all the parents who send their children, especially girls, in tops which dont cover the shoulders and then dont bother to apply sun cream. We do put cream on as a top up during the day but I cant believe that so many parents just presume we'll do it and dont bother. Moan over.
AnonyMouse_7120
we have a 'sun hat' box and as with wellies we ask that it stays in the box when its not on their heads.....and with us its also no hats no outdoors.
AnonyMouse_6721
Hi Thanks for all your replys. It is the first year for a long time that it has been a problems as we had out trees cut back late last year. Before that we were lucky to see the sun. Only 2 weeks left now, so will muddle through but will buy a few spare and label them next year. Yes, it has been on my mind that staff should wear hats aswell!!!
