We do have a scheme of work for this area but my Headteacher wants me to review this and make some changes..can u help by pointing me in the direction of anything on here regarding the ICT curriculum in the FS and KS1 or anywhere else. Guest
Hi Just a thought but have you got Advanced Skills Teachers or Lead Professionals available to you in your county? If so I would suggest getting your head to contact them and arranging for you to work with them - Advanced Skills Teachers are free but can be tricky to get hold of as they are usually booked up quickly and Lead Professionals will come and work with you but cost money - your headteacher should have contact details but if you look on your county's intranet their details should be on there. I would also suggest before you change anything audit the staffs skills as this has an effect on what they can teach the children without training first -I have a couple who won't teach anything new until I have worked with them on it first. You also need to get hold of a progression of ICT skills document - i have one somewhere and will upload it when i find it. this is a good starting point for changing your curriculum if you know the sorts of skills expected at each level. Also the levels for ICT are changing in September so this is something you will need to get hold of. Maybe audit your software and see what areas you are missing before ordering any hardware - make sure you are able to run all you need to. Children are able to do much more now and I am always amazed at the levels of ICT skills my children have. I am supposedly as specialist in this area and would be happy to help you - I too am in the process of overhauling the curriculum. of course you also need to ensure that you are working towards a VLE by spring 2010 - I would check to see what your county is doing - AST's/LP's can also help with this. IF your county has a reccomended VLE I would get your head and you to sort it out - they are fantastic learnign and teaching tools Hope this helps, let me know if I can help further Lizzielou Edited August 20, 2009 by lizzielou

AnonyMouse_4544
In my past life as ICT coordonator - I got together with our local comp to see what they actually wanted our children to be able to do rather than what the QCA said and we worked out our SOW from there. It might also be worth looking at the propose Primary curriculum (ICT becomes a core subject) so it might make sense organising the curriculum with that in mind

Was feeling a bit alone..and anxious about it this morning but you have helped me to feel calmer about it all. I will get in touch with others locally and go from there. I have spoken to Head about an advisor but seemed reluctant to organise anything. AST is a good idea and I will investigate that further. Also the skills document would be good so yes please to that if you can find it. Thanks again for ur offer of help and for the advise. AnonyMouse_4544
Thank you Marion..glad to see you have survived the experience Redbase I was so relieved when our new recruit showed an interest and I could suggest dropping it just remember you aren't a technician and don't have to fix everyone's PC!
