Not mud pies, but the story Stone Soup can be inspiring, the children bring whatever they can find to the pot to stir it up. Not sure where our copy is at the moment basically a travelling fox stops at the farm gate and asks for some food, the animals all say no, so cunning Mr. fox asks if he can have some water to make stone soup, he puts the water onto boil and puts in a stone tastes it and says ah it needs some........... do you have any? gradually the animals become more and more intrigued and bring him all the bits of food he asks for and at the end they all share the soup.

Joe's Cafe, not really a recipe but Joe is so busy baking mud pies for his Creepy Crawly Cafe he forgets to look after his baby sister.

Babette Cole's The Slimy Book isn't mud pies but some lovely rhyming words that children love about slimy stuff.

I know this is the wrong thread but I can't find the current one!

Mud

I like mud

I like it on my clothes

I like it on my fingers

I like it in my toes

Dirt's pretty ordinary

and dust's a dud

For a really good mess-up

I like mud!

Dig, dig, digging dirt,

Dirt inside my vest,

Dig, dig, digging dirt,

Digging dirt is best.

Not sure who it's by or whether there's more of it will look in my book of pomes later!

I knew there was more to it...

In your hands you hold the spade,

Feel its well worn wood.

Now you drive it in the earth,

Drive it deep and good

Dig, dig, digging dirt,

Dirt inside your vest.

Dig, dig, digging dirt,

Digging dirt is best.

Soon your hands are red and raw,

Blisters on the way,

But your spade just wants to dig

All the long, hot day.

Dig, dig, digging dirt,

Dirt inside your vest.

Dig, dig, digging dirt,

Digging dirt is best.

Thought I'd better type it all and where it's from, but personally I just like the chorus for littlies :o
