AnonyMouse_13401
Hi Need to put a plan in place for next September's intake to Nursery. We are part of a school and have 2 pt nurseries am and pm, morning and afternoon, 2 1/2 hour sessions. Obviously it will have to be 3 hours. Where can I get some advice I am waiting for our LA to advise. I have searche forums but can't fine anything. Thank you.
AnonyMouse_9650
Hi Mumm At the end of last term our local authority advised that parents could now claim back to back funded sessions so we have rejigged our sessions to run from 9.00am to 11.30am and 11.30am to 2.00pm. Parents can have 1 session or use 2 back to back. From September 2010 however they can have 15 hours over the week with minimum blocks of 2 hours and a maximum of 13 hours over 2 days. I was thinking of how to do our sessions from September 2010 but think I will stick to 9.00am to 2.00pm - that way parents can have flexibility ie. 3 x 5 hour sessions or 5 x 3 hour sessions or mix and match. Will also probably change to hourly rate instead of sessional but that's a whole different ball game and is being chatted about on the single funding formula thread! Guest
Interesting to hear your thoughts on this. I too manage a school nursery and we currently offer two separate sessions of 2.5 hours. I think the back to back sessions could be an idea for us in the future. How do you staff these?
AnonyMouse_9650
Hi Jude We are only into week 2 of this arrangement and learning our way through it. Have higher numbers of children in the morning so have some staff who leave at 11.30 but keep one to stay over for extra half hour to cover the 11.30 departures. At the moment we don't have any children who start in the afternoon - this is a bit of a blessing at the moment because it means we can do different things with the children who stay for the afternoon period. The afternoon period also runs over lunch which is a relaxed social time where the children have plenty of time to socialise and eat. As most staff work under 6 hours there are no break issues. As its my business and i'm not am employee as such, breaks are not something i get anyway - just one of the perks of being self employed
AnonyMouse_13401
Thanks Sue and Jude Was wondering if anyone in a school has had this issue? Shame you don't get breaks, I think that is quite tough!!!
Guest
We are a nursery class in a large primary school. We have children who come daily 8.30 - 11.30; children who come daily 12.30 - 3.30; children who come 2.5 days - ie.M,T,& W am; and the ones who come Wpm,Th,F. The front end and back end of the week children obviously stay for lunch, and any extra lunch spaces are available for a few morning children to stay till 12.30, or afternoon children to start early at 11.30.( but they do all pay for lunch which is provided by the school kitchens and supervised by one of our TAs and a dinner lady) It has taken a bit of getting used to but is now working well! Hope I've explained it ok - it's easier to see in practice than to write down!
