Guest
Just had Ofsted this week - aaahhhh! I am new to school this September and have been trying to implement EYFS, as up to now has been v formal... Just wanted to let everyone know what a positive experience Ofsted has been. Our inspector was an early years specialist and very approachable. She could see we were trying our best, but that we are struggling with the resources etc that we have. We won't have done brilliantly as far as a grade is concerned, but she was very positive and said she can see that things will change - she even recommended me some web pages to look at!!! I felt she was there to help us rather than criticise. All in all it was quite exciting, as now we have a real mandate to change things, and when I am asking the governors for money to put in a decent outside area etc hopefully they will listen!!! Having said all that, thank goodness its over. I have lost my voice!!
Guest
Well Done, Kathryn, Bet you're glad it's over but I'm glad you've found it a positive experience and once you've got that report in your hot little hands you can start implementing changes and requesting resources because "Ofsted said...........!" Relax and enjoy the rest of your day! Nona Edited October 15, 2009 by Guest

AnonyMouse_8466
How lovely to hear a positive Ofsted story. I'm really interested to hear that your inspector suggested some web pages to look at - I remember asking my inspector her opinion on something and she gave me a withering look at said that Ofsted inspectors aren't there to offer advice or sources of information... Take it easy now and give your voice a chance to recover! Maz

Guest
Fantastic news - well done. we all need to keep asking for what we know our children need, even though we sometimes seem to come at the bottom of other's very long lists xxx
Guest
Really glad you had a positive experience with Ofsted. Your inspector sounds really nice and supportive. Any chance you could pass on some of the websites she suggested you look at? They might be interesting for us all. Harricroft xxx
Guest
Yes, she suggested looking at the ofsted website, a document called 'Leading to Excellence' - http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/Ofsted-home/Leading-to-excellence. I've just been looking at it and it is interesting. I think our main issue (or at least the most important one!) is sorting out our environment. I really need to think creatively about how we can reorganise our indoor and outdoor space to make the resources more accessible. We are in a small classroom in a Victorian building with a small fenced off area outside. Hopefully the governors are going to release some money for resources, but I still need to work out what we need and how to organise it! Lots to think about...
