Guest Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Hi evtryone, I really need to get out more but these cold dar nites are really not encouraging me to, so here i am on fsf again. I was always under the understanding that if chn who are going into yr 1 have not yet met the easrly leasrning goals, then yr 1 teacher should be still providing EYFS curriculum to those chn who have not got secure scale points to 9. My head seems to think you work off the p levels. please can you verify this for me cheers xx
Guest Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 No you are correct - your head is not. From my understanding P levels are for those below level 1 when they are in year 2 or above. We've only used them for severely special needs children - normally contributes to their statement, not for the large number of children who have not achieved all of points 4-8 in all areas!

You will find that many of the P scale descriptors will be familiar to you as ELG or earlier statements. In my LEA any specialist intervention requires a P scale assessment.

AnonyMouse_4544 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) P Scales are only for children who have identified SEN not for every child who may not have achieved all ELGs scale points 4-8 ( point 9 isn't included as it indicates a child working beyond ELGs) This is from the APP link but does clearly state that Y1 teachers can continue to the profile and that P scales are for SEN only. "Teachers in Year 1 can continue to use the EYFSP as their assessment tool for children where they consider this to be appropriate. This will be particularly the case for children who have not obtained any or most of the ELG - scale points 4 to 8 - in a particular EYFSP scale. The point at which teachers begin to use APP criteria is a matter for professional judgement and the teacher's knowledge of the child. Teachers will need to consider carefully which criteria best match the child's developing strengths and needs, and support them in identifying the next steps in their learning. Teachers will also need to use their judgement to determine whether a child has not achieved the ELG as a result of a special educational need. Children with identified special educational needs who are likely to be working below level 1 at the end of the key stage should be assessed in relation to the P scales. AnonyMouse_79 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Just wondering how I can show where my children are against APP when they are still working on the profile, they will be/ are low achievers but I do not think these children are specifically SEN.
