Guest
Just wondering if any of you lovely people can help... Im trying to increase the achievements of boys in my Reception class particularly in writing and creative development. We do write dance, and am fully involved in raising boys achievements generally through research that I am doing for my MA - more specifically I am wondering if anyone does anything really modern related to Dance and not necc related to writing I just want to get them imterested in dancy type things. We have watched x factor, Britains got talent, George Sampson etc and the boys really love it, but I want to move on from just free stle dancing to modern music to something more specific... Someone suggested strictly come dancing style stuff, but we are in quite a deprived area and I feel something more on a hip hop/modern style would appeal to them more Any ideas!! AnonyMouse_19782
My son is at an all boys senior school, but a few weeks ago they had a Humanities Day and he said they had a group of Street Dancers come in and do a demo and got the boys involved afterwards in having a go. Do you have anything similar in your area, a group that you could find out about that would come along. He also had another local group come in they are a Samba Band, they are well known in our area, but it is such an infectious sound and beat to the drum music they play that you just automatically start swaying to the rythmn. Perhaps a trawl through local news pages would find some clubs or something that could come in an perform one day.

Guest
A seasonal twist - have you seen the elf yourself website? You can upload photographs to stick onto the bodies of the dancing elves, and there are a variety of dance styles. Could be fun anyway!
AnonyMouse_12960
We are fortunate enough to have a specialist dance teacher. This term she has helped the children dance their way around the world....waltzing from Vienna, Zulu dancing from SA, Can Can from France, Ancient egyptian moves etc etc. It has been fab and the boys have loved it. For them it gives dancing a real meaning, and backed up with good photos and some background history/geography details it has been a fab experience for all. Don't know if this helps you at all, but so much better for us than a regular dance/movement class. Ps The elf site is hillarious, and once I had shown it to my own kids they were copying the jig like crazy.....
