Foundation Stage Profile

We have a child with us who is 5 in March. He is EAL and parent is waiting for a place at school, but there are no vacancies. We have been doing his learning journey, but do we need to be doing the FSP while he is with us and pass this on to his teacher?

I would say not really at the moment - unless he is still with you in later Spring!! The EYFSP does not have to be completed until the end of the academic year

Keep on with the learning journey and the tracking against dev matters. When he goes to Reception this information will inform the EYFSP judgements that will be made at the end of the year.

We had a child staying on last year who turned 5 in June. We just kept going as catma suggests, using the learning journey which provided lots of evidence. However, when EYA came to assist with completing the profile in the spring, she recommended tracking children's progress against the profile criteria during the whole academic year if we ever had another in that situation. In retrospect this would have been a good idea as the child's keyworker changed during the period which made it slightly more complicated to monitor and it all piled up in the summer term and I don't think we really did it justice!

If the child will be joining his peers at any time it might be helpful to the reception teacher to have evidence against the profile. Just a thought!
