Books

Recommended Posts

I've done it for years, very successfully. We have a huge number of books, and they all have our sticker in the front. It says "This book belongs to xxxxxxx. Please look after it and return it as soon as possible. Inform staff of any ‘accidents’ which may have happened to it"

I have a big page a day diary and parents write their child's name in it, and the name of the book they have borrowed on the day they take a book. This helps us keep track of where they are, and helps parents locate the book at home if they know the name of the book they have borrowed.

We also have a book loan scheme (village hall pre-school). Each child has a book bag and is able to choose a book once a week from a large selection. Staff note down the name of child and book taken each week and then tick on it's return. Parents are usually very good at returning their child's book on a weekly basis.

We ask parents to do it where they can, as this involves them in the decision-making process as well as encouraging them to spend a few minutes in the Preschool at the start of their child's session. Children can take a new book every day - when they've brought the previous one back - or hang onto it for a week or so
