My List Of Songs

Recommended Posts

I have split my class into two family groups, and I wanted to type up a list of songs for each board. The NN and myself have both agreed that sometimes your mind goes blank when we have a songtime session, and we thought it would be a useful reference tool.

I am an NQT, so I am still picking up good songs as i go, but here is a list of what i could think of in 15 minutes. Anyone think of any more good ones I could put on there?

Thanks in advance.

5 Currant Buns

5 little men in a flying saucer

10 green bottles

5 little ducks

5 little monkeys swinging in a tree

5 little monkeys jumping on a bed

We do one similar to Anita's sung to the tune of Bobby Shafto. You can use any actions you like.

Examples are

Clap your hands and pat your knees

Clap your hands and pat your knees

Clap your hands and pat your knees

Now we've made a pattern.

Nod your head and wiggle your fingers

Stamp your feet and rub your tummy

Tap your head and blink your eyelids

Goldilocks went to the house of the bears is a great favourite with our little ones

Goldilocks went to the house of the bears

and what did her blue eyes see

A chair that was big, a chair that was small and a chair that was tiny and

that was all

she counted them 1,2,3

then repeat for porridge and bed

Hands upon your head

hands upon your head

up and down up and down

hands upon your head

on your nose - back and forwards

on your ears - wiggle your fingers

on your shoulders - change them over

on your waist - wiggle and jiggle

on your hips - out and in (putstrecth arms and then in)

on your knees - change them over

on your ankles- jump up and down

on your feet - touch the ceiling

bottoms on the floor!!!!

Children love it ( supposed to be done to tune of knees up mother brown)

Somehow it got livened up a little more and after each verse children stretch arms up and shout Hey!

Blink your eyes[Twinkle twinkle little star]

Blink you eyes and lick your lips

Shake your shoulders, wiggle your hips.

Kick your leg up

Wave hello

Nod your head

Bend your elbow.

Blink your eyes and lick your lips

Shake your shoulders, wiggle your hips.

What can I do with both my hands?[What shall we do with the drunken sailor]

What can I do with both my hands?

What can I do with both my hands?

What can I do with both my hands early in the morning?

Give a little clap and shake them all over x3

Early in the morning.

What can I do with both my feet etc

Give a little stamp and shake them all over

What can I do with my whole body etc

Give a little wriggle and shake it all over.

The children really enjoy action songs and I try to include a variety in singing time.

Hi

Could someone supply the word to Elephants out to play, please.

Don't know if these two have been mentioned: Little Bunnies and Bouncing balls.

We have made song cards (laminated cards with picture and song title on, sometimes with words on the back, in case we have forgotten) and the children take turns to select a card and name the song from a choice of song cards. Very popular circle time activity with the children.

Little Bunnies - See the little bunnies sleeping

Till it's nearly noon

Come and let us wake them

With a merry tune

Oh, how still

Are they ill?

Wake up soon

Wake up soon

(Adult or another child shouts out "Wake up bunnies" after a pause and children stand up from lying still on floor and jump)

Hop little bunnies, hop, hop, hop (repeated 2 more times)

Hop little bunnies, hop and stop.

Bouncing balls - Bouncing balls bounce up and down (repeated two more times)

Boucing balls stand still

(Change verses to turn round and round/hop on one leg)

I must admit I hadn't heard of these until I moved up North to the setting I am in now. So I apologise if these are old hat to many of you.

Sung in a circle holding hands - elephant walks around inside the circle with one hand for trunk - one for tail.

One elephant went out to play,

Unpon a spiders web one day.

She had such tremendous fun that,

She called for another little elephant to come.

We also sing

one little reindeer went out to play,

Upon the snow and ice one day.

Don't forget to look in This little Puffin by Elizabeth Matterson I recently bought a new copy, my other one being 30yrs old and found many old favourites but some new ones!

a child is chosen each time to join the one in the middle. (A good addition rhyme) when you have enough children in the middle the last one can be

five elephants went out to play,

Unpon a spiders web one day.

They all had such tremendous fun that,

that she called for all the other elephants to come

(and all children pretent to be elephants)

or

I]five[/i] elephants went out to play,

Unpon a spiders web one day.

They all had such tremendous fun but,

the spiders web broke and they all fell down.

(you know what happens next)

WOW I'd forgotten the bunny song and what a super idea to have laminated cards. Its so difficult sometimes to remember to sing something new and so many songs I dont remember until I hear them again!!!

We used to do the bunny song in a ring games session and there are so manay of those that Ive forgotten. xD

Geraldine, dont you have any bears in your Goldilocks song?

"They growled at her grrr, grr, grr"

Mimi, dont throw away that old Little Puffin! I replaced mine several years back as my copy was falling to pieces and then wanted a rhyme and it wasnt in the new version. :o Fortunately being the hoarder that I am, I still had the old book but the idea really was to replace not have 2 books!

The Scarecrow song/ "When all the cows were sleeping" is usually a good one and "wind the bobbin up"

"The Princess lived in a big high tower" is a good one for a circle or sitting down.

I think its just a variation on the previous elephant one, we do

One little elephant balancing

step by step on a piece of string

he thought it was such tremendous fun

he called for another elephant to come

Done outside we draw a line on the ground and children try to 'balance' and stay on the line

INside we have used a piece of string/wool whatever you fancy, sometimes its put as straight line and other in a circle or wiggly line or.... whatever you think of

when you have the required number of elephants its ?? elephants balancing step by step on a piece of string when all of a sudden the string went Ping!

Susan, yes we do have the bears but last time I went to their house they were sooo big and scary I tried to forget about them ( how's that for an excuse :D )

Hi Geraldine

Thanks for elephant balancing on a string. Someone at work told me about this but we couldn't remember words. This will be great for all children but particularly for 4 children we have with co-ordiantion problems. The physio gave us lists of ideas to do with children, including balancing along a line but this song will make it more fun! Thanks again. Any other songs, ideas greatly appreciated.

We made up a pre-school song book of all the songs we could remember so when we have "five minutes" and have forgotten every song we ever knew the little song book is there. Have been reading through the songs listed and found a few to add.

Some of them brought back memories of when I was "little" and sang them at my playgroup, I had forgotten them, little Peter Rabbits got a fly upon his nose, can still picture myself doing it.

We do a hello song that goes like this.

Hello boys hello,

hello boys hello,

hello boys hello,

hello boys hello.

Girls is the same, the children decide if we sing fast/slow or loud/soft.

The clock goes tick tock is another they like the children do the tick tock with instruments.

The clock goes tick tock,

the clock goes tick tock,

the clock goes tick tock its time to say hello.

hello (childs name) hello ........... hello........... its time to say hello.

We go around the ring until we have said hello to everyone.

For our morning circle song we sing "I love you" the tune is from the Barney ( purple dinosaur ) programme.

I love you, you love me,

We're the preschool family

With a great big hug ( hug yourself or some children hug each other)

and a kiss from me to you ( we blow kisses)

won't you say you love me too.

I love you, you love me

we're best friends as friends should be ( do a hand shake with your own two hands)

With a great big hug ( hug yourself or some children hug each other)

and a kiss from me to you ( we blow kisses)

won't you be my best friend too.

The adult then asks Are we all best friends? which they all shout YES.

I forgot that! (What is it they say? Familiarity breeds contempt???? Review practice, Susan, review practice!!)

We do it regularly, it was started by the children! One stood up at 'request time' and said he wanted to sing a song for his friends - it went on for ever, because he went around the circle singing it to his 'gang' (for want of a better word), but it was amazing! The other children must've liked it, because it happened for several days, with different instigators, so it has carried on.

Dear All,

Brilliant to have all these songs listed here, thanks. There's another job for me to do - type up a list of all the songs with words and get them laminated - what a good idea - how often does my mind go blank and this will be a good way of ensuriing it doesn't. Must put it on my list of things to do along with the typing up of my recipe book, laminated with pciture of "one of made earlier".

We have a couple of books that I have made with songs in. One is for when we do band and the other has action songs and rhymes in it. So when we find a new song I type it up with a picture, laminate it, punch holes in the top and string it onto the existing ones. Makes life so much easier.

  • 3 weeks later...

Have you used any of the Sue Nicholls books? Lots of topic related songs - new words set to traditional tunes (especially good for those of us who are musically challenged!) My favourite titles from her are 'Bobby Shaftoe - Clap Your Hands' and 'The Handy Band' :o

Linda,

a bit off topic but did you know you can get laminating sheets with punch holes to place laminated sheets in ring binders. I get mine from viking.
