Guest
On a growing theme - I'm a sunflower, I'm a sunflower I stand in the sun all day, I sway in the gentle breezes, And I face the sun always When the sun comes up each morning My head lifts to face the light, I keep looking at the sunshine, Till I go to sleep at night. (sung to the tune Oh my darling Clementine) What a lovely time of year, time of year, time of year, What a lovely time of year, in our springtime garden See the flowers swing and sway, s & s, s & s, See the flowers swing and sway, in our springtime garden (sung to Here we go round the Mulberry bush) Harricroft. (Children hold hands out and look puzzled) I think it is an? (Take it in turns to ask children to name an animal) ELEPHANT Everyone do impression of elelphant lifting trunk and making a noise twice I think it is an? Elephant Repeat impression Looking for his tea I hope it isn't me. Then start all over again doing another animal. TEN LITTLE NUMBERS (SAME TUNE AS TEN GREEN BOTTLES) Suggestion (Put a line up with number 1 to 10 on A4 white paper. Make sure each one is pegged up in order so that the children can take the right number as in the song. Great for older children and learning to recognise numbers in written form) Ten little numbers hanging on the line, Ten little numbers hanging on the line, And if one little number gets taken off the line, There'll be nine little numbers hanging on the line. Nine little numbers hanging on the line, and so on...... Carolann Little_Caterpillars.doc
Guest
Tom Thumbs musical Maths by Helen MacGregor is another great book. The simple songs using familiar tunes help develop maths skills. One my kids really love is Mystery Bag to the tune of This Old Man - You need 2D and 3D shapes in feely bags. 2D shapes Mystery bag, what's inside? What's the shape you try to hide? It's a circle, triangle, rectangle or square, Feel the shape describe what's there. or 3D shapes Mystery bag, what's inside? What's the shape you try to hide? It's a cube or cuboid, pyramid or sphere, What is it? We want to hear? Feel the shape describe what's there.
