Guest Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Hi All I work in a Nursery attached to a school. The school is going to follow the International Curriculum and we have to in Nursery aswell. Is there anyone who is also currently following this in a Nursery? Just wanted to know people's thoughts if you have any? The units do look quite boring for Early Years! Thanks! Butterbean
AnonyMouse_1195 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Hello there Butterbean and welcome to the forum. Perhaps we need to know where you are and what curriculum you are following so that we can engage with your queries? Great to meet you
Guest Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Hello there Butterbean and welcome to the forum. Perhaps we need to know where you are and what curriculum you are following so that we can engage with your queries? Great to meet you Hi Thanks for replying! Sorry forgot to mention that it is called The International Primary Curriclum which covers Early Years to secondary. It is topic based covering all six areas of learning. Each unit lasts for 5-6 weeks. Apparently 350+ schools in the UK are following it. I can see how different it is for years 1-6 in a Primary. Just wondered if anyone was familiar with it! Thanks Butterbean
Guest heleng Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Our school use the IPC. They have bought into it for Years 1 to 4 but not Early Years. This is because I was able to look at some EY's topics and said we were doing similar things anyway and so it would be a waste of money. We are lucky and my head listened to me, it also means we aren't tied down. In FS (we have a Nursery and a Reception class) we follow the KS1 topics but only very loosely so we are free to follow the children's interests. It means at the beginning of term when the children are settling in and getting established we have a focus for them.

This is useful, I think I need to get together with my FS Co-ordinator and see what we can do! Butterbean
Guest Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I am into my second topic of the IPC for reception aged children. I currently have mixed reception and year 1. We are doing a topic called Up and Away, which after 4 days the children are loving, and has produced some amazing child initiated activities. I agree that some topics seem slightly dull - but I think that used alongside your own imagination, and ideas from the children then they could potentially work very well. I like the fact that it tells me some basic ideas that I am already doing - as well as some ideas that I haven't thought of yet. The rest of my school seem to be enjoying it - but it is an awful lot of money
AnonyMouse_8466 Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 For those people like me who had never heard of it, here's a link to the IPC website. Maz

I agree looking at the topics it does need your own imagination and ideas from the children! It also needs you to adapt some of the activities to suit your children. Yes it is expensive! Thanks again Butterbean

Butterbean Hi Butterbean My school uses IPC I have Foundation Stage Unit of 2 mixed F1 andF2 classes. We are enjoying it so far although this is our first year. Some of the units that I wasn't to sure about to begin with e.g. Patterns, have proved to be surprisingly good and there is plenty of room to extend and adapt to suit. It does cover many things I would have done anyway but this way we can easily show coverage and it means we have a similar format to rest of school. I was concerned initially as had worked hard on moving away from planning months in advance to very child led planning. We are allowing for this as we regulalry swap units around to suit the children's interests.
AnonyMouse_2776 Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Hi everyone! Could you please kindly share your experiences with this curriculum within the past 5 years? Thanks in advance! :1b
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 A new link: http://www.greatlearning.com/ieyc/#
AnonyMouse_92441 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 I follow the IEYC, the early years branch of the IPC. We have only tried this for one year so far and have found it a little challenging in terms of observation and assessment. Any feedback or personal experience on this topic would be great. I'm thinking next year I might opt for a no pre-planned topic schedule, and then roll with the children's interests. Thoughts and feedback welcome
