Guest
Hi I can see from reading through the posts on here lots of you are doing the foundation degree through the OU. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who is actually studying at a uni. I'm currently in my first year at wolverhampton uni. I have completed 4 essays already and achieved 2 a's and 2 b's. Im currently working on 3 more essay due in on the 4th May 2010, one of which is Child developement in regards to cognitive and language development and im struggling with finding developemnt issues for a case study on a girl called lottie (please see attached) I then need to apply this to theroist, can anyone please help? thank you for taking the time to read this. Guest
Hi Jody!! I am studying my degree at Worcester. I think you have done really well with your grades so far.... keep up the great work!! As for your question.......... Its tricky!! Mum may well be talking to Lottie all the time but then again she might not. Lottie is not socialising with her peers and possibly with mum being alone money may be tight and so Lottie may not have access to resources to help her cognitive thinking skills develop. Vygotsky was obviously VERY hot on social interactions but where are Lotties? How can she develop language without developing communication skills? Might need to think about this some more........ AnonyMouse_2418
On the cognitive side Lotties skills are developing rapidly at this age and she would benefit from time spent with other children, working alongside them and learning with them - think Bruner and scaffolding and modelling , also the possibilty that her play may incorporate some schemas (Athey) which Mum may just interpret as annoying habits but could be developed if Lottie was given the chance to socialise at a toddler group/pre-school ? AnonyMouse_705
How about Piaget's theory, that children can benefit from socio-cognitive conflict by interacting with their peers? Will the fact that Dad has recently moved out affect her development?
AnonyMouse_8466
I wonder how Lottie's physical development is proceeding - does she have opportunities to use both fine and gross motor skills? There's no mention of them having access to very much outdoor play or a garden. Good luck with your studies Jody - I finished my Foundation Degree a few years ago now but I loved every minute. Well almost! Maz
