AnonyMouse_1326
I am currently half way through my research project on the links between social interaction and language development I am not sure if any of you lovely people will be able to help me. I have currently looked at the feral children and using data we have collected during the ECAT programe does anyone else have any ideas Thanks in advance. Guest
A book called 'Dancing With Words' looks at an American study of hearing children born to two deaf parents and their level/speed of language accquisition. Some of the children had higher language skills than their non-deaf parent counterparts. They think this was due to the effect of using sign. Not sure if that is the sort of social interaction you are looking for?

Karen x x There is something called the "critical period hypothesis" vague memories from university but basically if a child doesn't learn language before a certain age they are unlikely to be able to communicate as they grow older. Guest
Sally Ward developed her Baby Talk programme from her work as a SALT, seeing children with language difficulties but also children whose early experiences did not support the development of communication. Lynne Murray and Liz Andrews "The social baby" describe very early social interaction and there's a video with commentary. also, www.scotland.gov.uk/library5/social/ins6-00.asp takes you to the Scottish Birth to Three which I've found very useful in the past!
