Guest
Hi, i just wondered if anybody could give me some advice on my next course, it's either Childhood (U212) or child development (ED209). Has anybody done either of these courses, any advice???? Thanks Gill xx
AnonyMouse_1999
hi I didn't choose either of those so no personal advice really. I have heard nothing but excellent reports about U212 though and it is a hugely popular course - in fact it is one I would like to do one day just for fun when time allows good luck with the decision making and your study - what have you done so far?? AnonyMouse_2732
Ooh!! You have just GOT to do U212 - it really is a fantastic course! There's an exam at the end, but to be honest it's all so interesting the information just sticks with you! Just don't combine it with another course or overlap at all! I did, and believe me the time management was diabolical Whatever you choose, good luck Sue

AnonyMouse_2732
I have to agree with Geraldine! The three hours just zipped by for me - the paper has little memory joggers like Book headings and dvd/audio cues, and the rest just follows - like I said before, it just sticks in your mind! Have you got to rites of passage? Ouch! Am I right in thinking you asked for advice last year, rapunzel...? Sue

Have you got to rites of passage? Ouch! Am I right in thinking you asked for advice last year, rapunzel...? Sue Thank you Sue and Geraldine for your faith Yes I was asking for advice last year and no I haven't got to rites of passage yet but it sounds like I have something to look forward to On a different note I am 'considering' overlapping E215 and KE312 what are peoples thoughts on this. I know it will be hell on earth but do people think it's doable??? Rapunzel x Edited April 24, 2010 by Guest
AnonyMouse_1999
On a different note I am 'considering' overlapping E215 and KE312 what are peoples thoughts on this. I know it will be hell on earth but do people think it's doable??? Rapunzel x Having done both I would advise against it! My reasoning is that E215 is 60 points at level 2 and KE312 is 60 points at level 3. I found the jump from level 1 to level 2 study not to be 'huge' but the jump from level 2 to level 3 is more noticeable. Marking criteria is effectively the same but where you may get a B at level 2 it would require 'that bit more' to get the same grade at level 3. The expectations of 'academic writing' are greater in level 3. Both of these courses will impact on your final degree classification which is also worth thinking about. I guess it depends on what you are aiming for, whether it's to do your utmost to pass each course as well as you can or whether you are happy to 'just get through it with a pass' - we are all different and what is right for one is not necessarily so for another. Whilst E215 has similarities to E115 (EYCLOS etc) it introduces you to research and you undertake a small scale research project using the mosaic approach so lots to get your head round. KE312 is totally different and I am really glad it wasn't an option for me to do both together! Having said that I am sure it is 'doable' but 120 points of study is the maximum the OU will allow you to study and it is certainly worth discussing with your regional centre who are well placed to offer personal advice. I do understand that some people want to complete the degree in as short a time as possible and also that there may be 'pressure' to do so. I was fortunate in that my study was undertaken by personal choice with no demands or expectations from employers or anyone else! I would do one at a time but at the end of the day only you can decide. I am sure there are others who have done both. The other thing is that E115 is being replaced shortly and I guess E215 will follow suit too so it may be worth enquiring when this is likely to come into effect. Good luck with deciding
AnonyMouse_2732
Hi, I agree with Geraldine in that I really wouldn't combine or overlap them. I've only done E215 of those two (finishing at the end of May - yay!) and have had all on keeping my head above water with just the one! I believe the next presentation of E215, October 2010, is the last. It might actually be worth waiting for it's replacement, because in some respects it's a bit difficult to get your head round as it was written before EYFS and so in some respects is rather outdated. (Not the theory etc, just the references to 'current' legislation, curricula etc) Well, I have found it to be dificult in those terms, but I'm a bit weird anyway! Good luck, whatever you decide Sue
