Enrichment Visits

Guest

Recommended Posts

We had a wonderful visit yesterday from some owls (if you're in the south west google 'pegasus hawking'), the children were really enthralled by it. We also having fortnightly visits from a yoga lady which the children are loving.

Now I'm thinking I'd like to plan an enrichment programme for the summer term, so what else should I try? Does anyone have any good feedback on visitors to their setting that they would recommend to me? I'd like to get some other creatures in, also some other stuff, so I'm after inspiration!

dont know if they still do it but we had Bristol Zoo visit once with a few creatures, they had cockroaches, tarantula & snails... and we had a parent who kept snakes so she came in too.

they did a little story about going on a magic carpet ride to diferent places and finding xxxx where the children could handle the animals... all except the spider which they 'shook hands with' children loved it, only lasted about 20 mins and was ideal for this age group... sorry cannot remember how we got them, think we just rang them and asked...

( we are a good 40 mins away)

Music was another one where we found a local group who would come in with instruments... this was found vis 'word of mouth' we are in the sort of place where someone always knows someone who can!

I was alos very lucky to have a gymnastic coach as a member of staff, but children adored having a go with her and she taught them 'correct ' ways so is there a local gymnastic school who have someone to come out.

Always the local police etc... ours had a motorbike and car which they came with and we caused havoc with locals who all came out to see why the siren was constantly going off!

If you have some local classes aimed at preschool children we find they will often do a nursery/preschool based session for you too. We currently have sports coaches coming in every other week (once a week) for the older children and as the coaches are male this has given a different slant to things too. They are a local group working to offer parties, etc and others we have done are like this. Often we cross advertise each other.

Hi

We have had zoolab (0845 330 6322) a couple of times now. They bring a range of mini beasts / rats / snakes and the man does a circle time with them. The children love it. Goes down well with the parents as well. They have a nationwide service.

The fire engine / firefighters went down well with the staff!

We had Jo Jingles in once a week to do music and activities with the children for a term. She was good but unfortunately the organiser had to give up.

I also have Zoo Lab once a term to bring in animals, snakes and rats. The children seem to love it.
