Junk Modelling

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share with you.........

Having identified that 'my' children haven't used the junk for construction for a long time.........they have taken to 'decorating boxes' with all sorts of resources - pasta, buttons, feathers, paper shapes etc. etc..........no problem with that, but I really wanted to get some 'real construction' going again......

So - this morning, I emptied loads of boxes, tubes etc. onto a mat on the floor (instead of table) and put out lots of rolls of masking tape (instead of glue) for joining........

Wow what a success - lots of children very happily constructing - fantastic - I love it when a plan comes together! :o

Sometimes they just need a little nudge don't they? Just changing something very small can provoke a whole new response by the same children to basically the same resources.

Hope you took lots of photos though sunny - we all know no actual learning takes place unless it is suitably recorded and annotated... :o

Nice one, sunny, have been meaning to suggest staff do some junk modelling. It's one of those things that always works well, just a pain to store stuff in a pack away setting so we need a 'please save your boxes' week first.

Masking tape always goes down well at our place too. Pound shops sell it for, well a pound, surprisingly, but for about five rolls around here. We are using recycling boxes from Ikea which stack together to contain our boxes, etc as it makes storage much neater.

Don't get me started on this today......

Out in that lovely sunshine we had a couple of weeks ago, I took all our junk modelling resources outside with multiple rolls of masking tape, sticky tape, glue, pens, etc. you name it - we had it. Laid it all down on 2 of the large safety mats and voila - our mountain of boxes (which was a storage nightmare) became a molehill in 3 days!

Our children love it! they made a rocket with turbo buttons and stuck feathers and foil ect... on it, then we left it in the hall for when the parents came so their children could show them their handy work,
