Guest
We are currently doing an under the sea theme which is fab! Some of the girls have shown an interest in learning about mermaids which I am really excited about! Just wandered if anybody has done anything around mermaids or any ideas? Guest
Oh!! sounds exciting. I once made a mermaid birthday cake when Little Mermaid was newly out. Used top half of a cheap teenage doll then wrapped the bottom half in icing for the tail. She sat on a cake cooked in a pudding basin and covered in rice crispies and melted chocolate to look like rocks (like the buns) Can you do something on designing a tail for a doll or themselves? Walking in flippers outdoor? making a mermaids role play house with blue and green fabric for sea weed. I have some playmobil mermaids that would make a nice small world with shells and fishes. Drawing mermaids with wax crayons then over painting with a blue wash (wax resist) Wish we had this, could run with this one....

AnonyMouse_25084
I read the book 'Dear Mermaid' where a little girl writes to a mermaid. The children then wrote a letter to the marmaid on special mermaid paper! They also made a large mermaid collage with shinny scales for her tail. I put sand in my builders tray with shells for children to write letters in the sand as this is what the mermaid does in the story.
