General Advice Please - Possible Creative Solution!

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of any Primary jobs out there in the North West for secondary teacher who is dedicated and desperate to change from secondary to Primary? She has bags of enthusiasm and dedication and would make a cracking Key stage 2 teacher if someone would just give her the chance!

If you can suggest some creative ways of achieving this I would appreciate your advice.

thanks so much :o

I live in the North West too and finding a job here is incredibly difficult even with an actual primary qualification. That said she should look for schools who would be interested in her specialist knowledge relating to whatever she taught in secondary. Unfortunately they are going to be more interested in music, pe, science, english and maths, ICT, than they are in say geography. Inner cities and deprived areas are more likely to be looking for teachers like this than places where everything is rosey and parents expect staff with relevant (in their eyes!) qualifications, although of course that might work in her favour if she has a strong subject specialism.

Can you just jump straight from primary to secondary or is there some sort of on the job training you have to do first? Whereabouts has she been looking for job advertisements?

I know of someone who moved from secondary to primary (KS2) and didn't have to do any training to prepare for the lower age range. She lives in the North West and has gone to work in a Catholic primary school. It is voluntary aided but they do seem to follow their own rules, without wanting to be rude about it. She used to teach MFL and I know that helped her to get the position as she had initially started by offering herself around (that sounds bad but I think you know what I mean) to do MFL sessions in primary schools and then moved onto teaching supply in local primaries, basically by getting her name mentioned in the right circles. After a few months she applied for and got a primary job.

Some of that sounds a bit bitter - it's not meant to be. But she doesn't have a good understanding of child development and I do hope she doesn't move to KS1 or Foundation Stage at any time. And I can say this as I do know her very well!
